It was a cold day and the tide was far out meaning that parts of the beach that are usually cut off by the tide were accessable and I could walk a mile or so along the beach from the car park to reach this spot.

I’d only noticed the cave when the bright red caught the corner of my eye as I was walking along the beach

It managed to shield me from the gale force winds for a while if nothing else.

Fortunately there was a bus stop in the layby (see map above) that I could pull in to and stood up on the door frame of the car to see over the fence. Fortunately the clouds were just right as I was driving past.

This was a particularly cold morning with frost and ice still on the pathways and roads.

Scotney Castle is a country house with gardens south-east of Lamberhurst in the valley of the River Bewl in Kent, England. Belonging to the National Trust, the central features are the ruins of a medieval, moated manor house, Scotney Old Castle, which is on an island on a small lake. The lake is surrounded by sloping, wooded gardens with fine collections of rhododendrons, azaleas and kalmia for spring colour, summer wisteria and roses, and spectacular autumn colour. St. Margaret’s Bay, Kent, England August 2008: Sunrise up over the English Channel on one of the most spectacular mornings i’ve witnessed at this location. The sky turned pink for just a minute before the sun rose up over the horizon.

Location: / St. Margaret’s Bay, Kent, England Map: / Multimap Date and Time: / 16 August 2008, 6.14 a.m. Camera details: / ISO 200 : f/22 : 1/4 second : 18mm : Nikon D40 : Nikon 18-55mm lens Shot narrative: / Known as White Cliffs Country and one of England’s most famous natural landmarks according to the Natural Trust, the cliffs extend a few miles to the north to St Margaret’s Bay. Captured in the early morning light the glow of these magnificent cliffs is amazing. Unfortunately due to erosion, parts of these cliffs are falling into the sea and the section of beach I usually visit at St Margaret’s Bay differs each time I go with new rocks that were once cliff now at the water’s edge.

The beauty of color in Autumn. Autumn marks the transition from summer into winter, around late September in the United Kingdom. Night becomes visually noticeably ,the cold felt with a strong need not be alone. The leaves fall of the tree and leave them bare and alone. This is part of my autumn theme. / Location: Warwick Park area of Tunbridge Wells – Kent UK
This is an HDR image (+/-3 EV) taken with a Nikon D200. F22 / Processed in Photomatix Pro and edited in Photoshop CS4. It is best viewed larger. I shot the image for the challenge that Richard and Irene have set in the B/W group.’England as Seen in B/W. But as always, I have not yet found the courage to loose the beautiful colours. But I am so pleased that we made the effort to go. It is a stunning location, with its Enchanted Forest and wonderful gardens. Groomsbridge Place is the fictional home of the Bennet family in the 2005 version of Pride and Prejudice. It is a moated manor house, near Tunbridge Wells in Kent. The house, built in 1662, is also featured as ‘Birlstone Manor’ in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes mystery The Valley of Fear. Groombridge was also the estate seen in Peter Greenaway’s elegant 1982 mystery The Draughtsman’s Contract.
