The Kelvingrove Art Gallery is Glasgow and Scotland’s premier museum and art gallery. The gallery was designed by Sir John W. Simpson and E.J. Milner Allen and opened in 1901. Since its refurbishment the museum is the most popular free to enter visitor attraction in Scotland, and the most visited museum in the United Kingdom outside London. / Glasgow, Scotland. The Stewart Memorial Fountain stands in a prominent position in Kelvingrove Park, Glasgow. Sculpted by John G. Mossman, it is named after Robert Stewart (1811-66), the Glasgow Lord Provost, who was the driving force behind the ambitious plan to bring clean water to the city from Loch Katrine, some 64km (40 miles) away in the Trossachs. The fountain is topped by a tall bronze statue of The Lady of the Lake, the subject of the poem, set in the Trossachs area, by Sir Walter Scott. 3exp hand-held HDR processed in Photomatix; further processing in Photoshop CS4; Canon EOS 450D + 17-85mm zoom;
The bronze Kennedy Memorial in Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Park was a gift to the City of Glasgow from Scottish New Yorker W.S. Kennedy. Kennedy offered the sculpture to his native city in 1867, and the transatlantic link is made stronger by the fact that there is a replica of the same sculpture in Central Park, New York City. The sculpture was made by Auguste Cain (1822-94), from a sketch by French artist Rosa Bonheur, and shows a Bengal Tigress carrying a peacock to her cubs for feeding. Like most things of beauty in this city which aren’t (1) out of reach and/or (2) difficult to climb and/or (3) protected by several thicknesses of razor wire, it has been vandalised and needs attention. Personally, I reckon the wee cub is saying “Oh no, not bloody peacock again! Can’t we go to McDonalds for a change?” 3exp HDR processed in Photomatix; subsequent processing in Photoshop CS4; Canon EOS 450D + 17-85mm zoom;
