Despite being a 20 minute drive by the freeway, I never seem to allocate the right time to visit this magnificient icon. The Tian Tan Buddha appears serene and dignified. His right hand is raised, representing the removal of affliction. His left hand rests on his lap in a gesture of giving (dhana). The Buddha faces north which is unique among the great Buddha statues. (All others face South.) I’m not a very religious person, but I need to know where my religious background stands in my family. This place was definitely the eye opener. How do they even carry all the 250 tonne bronze to make a 34 metre high statue up there?! A remarkable achievement. When the weight of the 12 bells of London’s St Martin’s in the Fields became too heavy for the aging structure of the church it was decided to replace them with a lighter peal. These bells, first cast in the 14th century, together with with 6 more cast especially to add to them, were presented to the City of Perth as a gift to mark Australia’s Bi-centenerary. What to do with them became the next question. After many years, and much debate, a bell tower was commissioned to be placed by the Swan River. The finished tower, with its copper sails reminiscent of the yachts that sail here ( and the passion for yachting of the Premier of the time) and needle-like spire of green glass, allows the bells to be rung from a single platform -something they could never do in their old home in London. / / Taken using a Canon 350D, Sigma EX DC HSM 10-20mm, f/10 @ 25 seconds exposure, ISO 200. / / MORE WORKS FROM MY PORTFOLIO /

It was around 5.30am when we caught the train at Boon Lay Station in Singapore. We were on our way to catch our scheduled 6 hour bus trip from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. / / But even at that time you see people napping on the train, presumably to get to work at around 6am. Working to make a living in Singapore is not easy. Moving from one place to another has never been so easy, thanks to the invention of the ‘moving stairs’. / / The funniest thing about this shot was the fact that a surveillance camera was staring RIGHT AT ME, and I didn’t know it until I brightened my image in RAW. Those who have visited Singapore International Airport can most likely recall soldiers with automatic rifles patrolling the terminal.
