This is the view from the Kata View Point, in the south west of Phuket, Thailand. / The bay nearest to the view point is Kata Noi Beach, the next one is Kata Beach, and the last one is Karon Beach. Patong Beach is on the far side of the hills on the far side of Karon Beach. The small island visible on the left is Pu Island. / This photo has also featured in my blog.

This mystical serpent guards Karon Beach in Phuket from future tsunamis. To achieve this fully sunlit golden appearance, I walked in very hot and humid conditions, captured the desired shots, and returned to cool off in a plunge pool. It was worth the effort! The decorations were added by local Buddists, celebrating the birthday of Buddha a few nights previously. Keith.

I watched this perfect lotus bud grow from day to day until it opened. At first dismayed because of its lack of symmetry I felt excitement when a close-up photo revealed the familiar green disk within, with the typical lotus seedpod pattern of dimples being slowly revealed. This area i’m viewing is owned by the Confederated Tribes and Nations of Salish-Kootenai Flathead Indians Reservation” / Diamond Lake Montana / “_One of my favourite pristine lakes of Montana, / Diamond Lake is a volcanic crater lake located at approximately 5400 feet elevation high in the mountains of western Montana near the Idaho border. Lush forests of the Lolo National Forest, springs and creeks, and an abundance of wildlife and wilderness surround this beautiful fresh-water spring and creek fed lake. Teeming with Brook Trout and native Cutthroat Trout as well as colourful frogs and many species of waterfowl, it’s such an exhilirating experience to take a canoe out on the lake and spend the day fishing. The water is so crystal clear that i can see down to the bottom of the lake and watch the fish swimming around in the underwater plants and tree logs that have sank to the bottom. With heavy snowfall during the winter, the spring melt and runoff causes this lake to rise dramatically, and some of the trees which were growing near the banks will fall into the lake. Trees that have fallen recently are floating and drifting constantly ~ creating a delightful habitat for miniature landscapes growing on the logs, while other trees which have been floating on the lake for years become water-logged and sink to the bottom. This creates a wonderful underwater habitat for the fish. It is written that Diamond Lake was once a volcano that erupted approximately 10,000 years ago and this lake was formed as a result. I must say that while canoeing in this lake it is a sensational experience knowing this is a volcanic crater lake. i cannot describe the emotions felt while being in a canoe in this lake ~ it is wonderful_” / Lilac Blossoms / “I love the beauty and fragrance of lilacs in springtime“ / MacIntosh Apple Blossoms / “From the tree in the meadow on my land“ / Diamond Lake / “Diamond Lake literally sparkles like diamonds in the evening sun. Born in the beautiful mountains of Montana near Glacier National Park and the Bob Marshall Wilderness area, this pristine fresh water river is teeming with life. Largest crayfish i have ever seen in my entire life, and a wonderful variety of Trout including Rainbow, Cutthroat, Bull, Brown, as well as Whitefish. This wild and beautiful wilderness is abundant with wildlife and Bald Eagles, Golden Eagles, a variety of Hawks, Great Horned Owls and Swans. One of my favourite rivers to fish, and favourite areas to hike and explore. The only way to get this shot is to stand on the bridge of the highway which crosses the river, very dangerous, but worth it_” / Chinese Ringneck Pheasant / “This is one of the Chinese Ringneck Pheasant roosters that I raised from 1-day old chicks. i purchased them from a hatchery. I think he is really beautiful. and once a year the pheasants molt their feathers. I collect the feathers, especially the tail feathers to use in arts and crafts. No matter that these pheasants were hand raised since babies, they remain always wild. They sleep indoors at night. I have built for them wonderful flight pens that are large and completely enclosed, thereby protecting them from cougars, coyotes and great-horned owls. They have perches which I made from lodgepole pine. As you can see, this rooster is standing next to the door entry into his house, which is constructed inside a log cabin. When I go inside the log cabin, there are doors of entry into each of the houses where I add fresh straw for bedding and nesting materials. The hens lay beautiful eggs, which are delicious to eat and quite a treat. Once a year the hens will sit a nest of eggs and hatch the cutest little babies!“ / “When I am exploring in the wilderness, I take a much different approach than most “hikers”. I usually hike barefoot (weather permitting) and I walk softly and carry a big gun. LOL I have encountered cougars and bears many times, which always gives me such a heartracing experience. We acknowledge each other and we separate ourselves from each other. Because i only takes a few steps at a time while absorbing the scenery, sounds and movements, I have had the delightful experience of up close and personal encounters with a wide variety of wildlife. One time, I had camped in a tent overnight, and rose early the next morning to walk by the creek ~ (in my barefeet) ~ as I was standing with my back to the creek, I heard the sound of a stick breaking, and without moving my body only turned my head to look back over my shoulder ~ and there was an enormous 7-point Bull Elk drinking from the creek not 20 feet away from me! Involuntarily I spoke out loud a sudden sharp intake of air and said “IT’S AN ELK!!!” I don’t know why I said it, the words just came out! The Elk reared up on its hind legs so surprised because he did not know I was standing right there in front of him until I spoke. He reared up on his hind legs, spun around and ran so fast back into the forest it sounded like thunder!” by Karon Melillo d’Vega

While it is true I am strongly influenced by so many of the great Masters, I am most influenced by Henri Matisse my painting is a study of the great / Master – Henri Matisse, / and his Self-Portrait of himself, titled: “Henri Matisse ~ Self Portrait, 1906” In honor of Henri Matisse, I have chosen his self-portrait as my study of a / “Copy a Master’s Impressionism Painting” a competition in the group Impressionism Café. I have been thinking about this for a couple of weeks. / Which Master Painter will i try to copy? This morning when i waked i knew. The one who most influences my life. Today i painted this painting within 4 1/2 hours from start to finish. i turned off the telephone, and all outside influence, and i immersed myself as best i could into the mind of Henri. All the time i painted this painting today, and while i was painting, i thought about him. / While my painting is not an exact rendition, i want you to know, i thought about him the entire time. with every brushstroke and even just using a couple of hairs of brush at times, sometimes i let my brush dry a little and paint drybrush! i dipped into my imagination and my minds eye, i tried to see Henri as he saw himself / the day he painted his “Self Portrait” in 1906. 20.3 cm x 25.4 cm original Acrylics Painting on / Gesso-primed Canvas Panel I painted this today on / 25 November 2009
