I was fortunate to travel to Johannesburg with work, and while there was lucky enough to go to the “Lion Park”, on the Northern outskirts of Jo’burg. They have a large collection of rare white lion, and other “big cats”. The white lions are not albinos. They have a genetic mutation which changes their colouring from the normal tan to white. Their eyes are a beautiful blue and their eyelashes are also blonde!! The white lion are native to South Africa and can now be found in breeding programs around the world. They are still very rare and it was such a priviledge to see them up close. These are not technically my “best” shots. I took these using my compact camera (Canon G9) from inside a car with windows wound up, hand held at full zoom!! If you would like to see a few more pics I have made a collage of shots which is posted under the Collective Collage group. I have put this shot under the cat love group as it demonstrates the playful “cat like” nature of these beautiful white lion cubs. Thanks for looking!

The gorilla has been extracted from my image taken at Taronga Zoo, Sydney in Dec 07. Credit to Robyn England www.happyrobyn.com for the La Femme elements of cat and striped hat. Credit to Katie Pertiet of DesignerDigitals.com for the LetterBox traveller paper (vintage aircraft ). / The title reflects the humour in the image with an oversized cat watching nonchalantly on the other building while flames lick at King Kong. If you look closely you might spot my daughter (the heroine) standing on the Empire State building waiting to be rescued by a confused King Kong. Hence the need for a Tom-Tom! A little whimsy is good for the soul. Thanks for looking. / / Gorilla image /
2nd Place in the Digital Creatures Challenge for the Images and Ideas Group / / Yet another trip down memory lane with photographs belonging to my mother and father recently found in an old shoebox in the attic. / This handsome chap was actually Captain Burchell “Bud” Grevyburg. A highly decorated Spitfire pilot during the second World War, he saw action over the Pacific but unfortunately received a rather nasty wound to the groin which saw him retired from service, both during the war and ummm….lets just say…in a more permanent manner. / He became part of our extended family in his later years due to his association with my Aunt Lemmy. / At first he was a major sponsor and collector of her artworks. Later, we suspect they became romantically involved. Although it came as a shock to the family, Aunt Lemmy’s eccentric nature (read that as pure madness) and the fact that The Captain was legally blind and almost totally deaf helped explain the liaison. / I remember him as a rather mulish character, who always wore a pin stripe suit, no matter what the occasion. He had a proud military bearing and absolutely saw everything in black and white. He was actually quite stubborn. / His most outrageous feature, and the one that had us kids falling about in hysterics was his raucous laugh, rather like a donkey braying. During evenings spent playing poker and smoking cigars with my Cousin Frank and Great Uncle Leo we would lie in bed listening to the muffled sounds coming from the sitting room. Once The Captain started laughing his crazy horse like laugh, it would signal an all out giggle frenzy to my cousins and I. We got in to soo.. much trouble and endured a few good ‘paddy whacks’ but boy, it was worth it!!!
Featured in the Woman Photographer Group – Thank You / / / This is my beautiful old classic Gibson Hummingbird guitar. It has six steel strings and it was the first guitar that I bought myself ( I started learning to play when I was 10 years old). It is now a classic ,and on pulling it out of its case I once again admired the craftmanship that went into making this beautiful instrument. I haven’t played it for many years, but my son is learning to play and I have happily handed it over to the next generation. He’s a lucky boy to have such a lovely guitar! In order to take these photographs I had to remove a very 70’s flower power style neck strap LOL!! Canon 40D with Canon 50mm lens at f/4 Since its release in the 1960’s, the Hummingbird has been luring guitar lovers with its sweet, velvet tone and distinctive appearance. This celebrity guitar, equally loved by blues, country, folk, and rock players, has become a symbol of the passionate ‘60s and has also earned its place in the heart-throbbing music of today. True to its original design, the Early ‘60s Hummingbird is handmade with a carefully applied Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish, and its authentic Gibson Hummingbird pickguard. It’s honey-like tone is attributed to its Sitka Spruce top, Mahogany back and sides, 24-3/4” scale length, and its traditional construction design with includes a dovetail neck-to-body joint, scalloped bracing, and lacquer finish. Textures add in PSCS3 / This vase (it also has a twin) belonged to my Aunty Marga. She bought the vases on a trip to Holland. She collects fine china in the blue and white pattern seen here (perhaps someone knows the style and can let me know!).It has a certain oriental look to it in the flower shapes and patterning. She kindly gave them to me the last time I visited her in Germany in 1988. I happened to remark how pretty they were and then the next thing I knew she had wrapped them up for me to take back to Australia. I always think of her when I use them and when I brought the Tulips home from the florist, I knew they just had to go in this vase.

Ceduna is an ideal base for exploring the pristine ocean and rugged coastline from Baird Bay to the Head of Bight. Whales are plentiful at the Head of Bight during the winter months, and the surfing at Cactus Beach is arguably some of the best in Australia. The beautiful Gawler Ranges are a short drive inland. The fishing is great all year round. Smoky Bay and Denial Bay oysters are amongst the world’s finest, grown and harvested in the region’s pristine ocean waters and gentle tides.
