K2 and The Angelus Peak, taken just after dawn from Concordia the meeting point of Baltoro and Godwin-Austen glaciers during a brief spell of stable weather. This was taken whilst trekking in the Karakoram in September 2006. I was very fortunate with the weather, the week before I arrived at Concordia the weather had been bad. Snow and low cloud with now views of the mountains, on the morning I left the cloud came down and it started to snow again. Around Concordia are clustered some of the highest peaks in the world. Four of the world’s fourteen “eight-thousanders”, are in this region. K2, second highest in the world at 8,611m, Gasherbrum I, 11th highest in the world at 8,080m, Broad Peak, 12th highest in the world at 8,047m and Gasherbrum II, 13th highest in the world at 8,035m. Standing at Concordia with all these huge mountains around, its easy to see why Galen Rowell called his book about the 1975 American K2 expedition ‘In the Throne Room of the Mountain Gods’ Please visit my site to see more of my work.

I was out of the tent a bit late the morning this shot was taken, so there was no time to use ND grad filters to balance the bright sky and dark foreground. So I took three shots at different exposures and blended them together to bring out some detail in Grasherbrum IV, without blowing out the rays of the rising sun. Sunset behind the Trango Towers taken from Urdukas. This is three exposures blended together, I also took this shot using 2 stacked ND grad filters. However on reviewing them on returning to the UK decided the 3 blended exposures worked best. Please visit my site to see more of my work.

The rising sun catch Great Trango Tower and Paiyu Peak, with Cathedral Tower in the foreground and Nameless Tower at the back. The Trango Towers are a group of dramatic granite spires located on the north side of the Baltoro Glacier, in Baltistan, a district of the Northern Areas of Pakistan.The Towers offer some of the largest cliffs and most challenging rock climbing in the world. The highest point in the group is the summit of Great Trango Tower, 6,286 m (20,608 ft). Please visit my site to see more of my work.

The sun had just dipped creating this dramatic effect, of rays of diffuse orange/pink light. The light is just catching Great and the Unnamed Tower on the right, Cathedral Tower is just visible in the foreground. Paiyu Peak is the highest peak on the ridge which the sun as just dipped behind. Hunza is located in the Northern Areas of Pakistan. Marco Polo once stopped here for rest when he was ill. Before the Karakoram Highway was built, Hunza was isolated from the rest of the world, surviving on sustainable resources.
