Shot this back in November, 2004, when the grass was much greener, and there was water in the dam. There’s only been water in that dam one other time since then, and it lasted around 6 weeks….this is a nice reminder of what we used to have…. Sold this a number of times pre-redbubble, mostly A3 size, and it won me a $1500 prize from the Brisbane City Council, as well the John Herbert medal at APSCON 2005, and also a number of other smaller prizes. This was sold december 2008 on redbubble as a matted print. The largest living marsupial found on the continent, the Red Kangaroo inhabits a widespread range, from the grass plains to the open woodlands of inland Australia. A ‘mob’ of Red Kangaroos is led by a dominant male. Adult male ‘Reds’ can stand up to 6m tall. Their legs work much like a rubber band, and in full force they are able to leap 9m clear and 2.5m high.

One of my regular ‘mates’ at Warrawong Sanctuary in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. I call him ‘Kevin’... The kangaroos and wallabies have become a bit of a long term project for me as I am still looking for the right image… I have a feeling I’ll probably never get it but its my cathardic ‘thing’ and always gives me a smile at their antics and at times boisterous behaviour… They are all very distinct personalities but this one has the most beautiful eyes which I am yet to get in the right natural light. Warrawong is a bit different to many parks in that you must stay on prescribed paths so the animals always have the better of any photographer!
