Photo of Buddhist Temple light up at night. Temple is in Kandy, Sri Lanka. A small temple hidden next to one of the biggest temples in Sri Lanka which hosts the tooth relic of Lord Buddha.

I was heading back from visiting one of the Buddhist temples on the top of one of Kandy’s picturesque hills, and asked if the young monks were happy to be in this photo. They agreed and very quickly, in anticipation of the photo to be taken, adjusted their robes and themselves for the best pose. Proceeds of this photo will be donated to a charitable trust.

There are various species of bat in Sri Lanka… the largest being the Flying Fox or Fruit Bat. You can see them hanging from trees during the day, and occasionally you will see them in flight at dusk. They are impressively large and take on the same form of Batman’s chest logo in flight. They can fly up to 50 miles to find food but always return to their original location. Many younger bats will fall from trees and are promptly retrieved by park rangers who will then carry them around on sticks and ask for tips. Since a bat’s claws naturally close when relaxed they can sleep upside down whilst hanging from a branch. © Jim Moore / Jimmoorephoto.com
