  • A composite of four images showing some of the diving styles When I was on Windang island to photograph some old bogey carriage wheels left to rust on windang island I turned my attention to a rock platform and gasped when i saw someone fall off. A few moments later I realised that there were youths in wetsuits jumping into the sea below them. My vantage point wasn’t very good so I started walking towards them and stood there for at least half an hour watching their daredevil stunts trying to get a good action shot whilst really nervous for them. One of the photos I had taken that day was in the Illawarra Mercury on Friday. The moment immortalised and the youths now made legends. I take my hat off to them. I could never have the courage to do somersaults and backflips into the water. I think they were surfers who were disappointed with the swell so decided to make waves of their own :) P.S. It was my first time to Windang Islam and I didn’t realise how easy it was to get from Warilla Beach to Windang Island. All you need is a low tide and it is a much better way for me to get there rather than walk from Redall Reserve. Next time I will ascend the stairs on the ‘rock’ of the island itself. I was so caught up on taking photos of the rusty wheels and the divers that I left exploration of the top of the island and its amazing views (so people say) for another day.
