  • Found my Mojo!, been ages since I got wet ;-) found these warn limestone blocks in the North Bay at Kaikoura on New Zealand’s South Island, carved smooth by the sea in a very blocky pattern, very different to the other rocks I found which tended to be sharp like sharks teeth. Shot on a Nikon D700 with 17-35mm lens, with Cokin ND4 grad filter.

  • Check this out!, this is the remains of a Store house built buy Robert Fyffe The fireplace and concrete step are all that remain of the Bonded Warehouse. The old wharf to the east of the chimney was the main port. Goods would only be released from the Bonded Warehouse when custom duty had been paid. The Bonded Warehouse was built around 1869 http://www.virtual-kaikoura.com/fyffehouse/fyffehousearea.htm This was fantastic light, firstly, I regret not changing lenses, the wide angle made the moon seem too far away, secondly, I’ve never seen the moon rise over the ocean before and best of all, the dying sun behind me was illuminating the fire place, very strange look. Shot on a Nikon D700 with 17-35mm lens.

  • This image was taken at the mouth of the Kowhai River were it joins the sea at the south bay of Kaikoura. I shot a portrait and landscape version of this image, turned round to look for the next shot and out the corner of my eye saw the tripod fall over in slow motion! In a blind panic I snatched the camera from the water, screaming and shouting and swearing a lot!!!! but at 6.30 am in the middle of nowhere you get to suffer alone. The camera fell in about 5-10mm of river water, I wiped it down, raced back to the car to get tissues, laid it in a bed of tissues to absorb the moisture, drove back to the apartment, borrowed a hairdryer and gave it a good seeing too, had to buy some small screwdrivers to remove the eye piece to get the water out, then left it all day in the airing cupboard. Any pictures that I upload from this point were taken after the dip, I can’t tell you hop lucky that i have been, all I could think was that I just through away $10K of kit, it had a a $3K lens on it at the time. I can tell you that I went through every emotion in the next couple of hours, with the passing of my dad a couple of weeks ago I can tell you, I’m a little emotional. I have since shot over 6 gig of frames the camera, the guy in my camera shop that looked over the camera and cleaned the sensor said “don’t try that with a Canon” you’ll be crying! Shot on a nikon D700 with 17-35mm Nikkor Lens

  • Found these warn limestone blocks in the North Bay at Kaikoura on New Zealand’s South Island, carved smooth by the sea in a very blocky pattern, very different to the other rocks I found which tended to be sharp like sharks teeth. I was facinated by these rocks, made several visits to them at different times of the day, they looked like the remains of a Lost Civilization. Shot on a Nikon D700 with 17-35mm lens, with Cokin ND4 grad filter. / Mayan Blocks at Dusk

Low tide reflections, seal colony to the right, seaward Kaikoura ranges to the left. I shot over 1200 frames last week, this one has been eating away at me to knock it off, this is a Photoshop image stich using 6 images, this sunrise alone i would have shot over a 100 frames/brackets. • Warn limestone blocks in the North Bay at Kaikoura on New Zealand’s South Island, carved smooth by the sea. i shot this just as the dawn started, its very very calm, or so it seam, a wave had crashed in and rushed back, this is a 25 second exposure, chek out the gull on the rock to the right, it didn’t move! • Shot in the North Bay at Kaikoura, 17, 07.09, low tide reflections, seaward Kaikoura ranges to the left, so calm so still you m,ay think, the sea was coming in fast, by the time I’d finished this set I was standing in the water. Shot on a Nikon D700 with 17-35mm Lens, Cokin ND8 soft grad, Raw files with Active D-Lighting on High.

  • Shot to the left of Fyffe’s House, North Bay at Kaikoura on New Zealand’s South Island. the light started to become more a intense pink as we go closer to sun rise, shot about 10 mins after Dusky Dawn Shot on a Nikon D700 with 17-35mm lens, with Cokin ND8 grad filter.

  • Shot at my favorite set of rocks on the beach in the North bay at Kaikoura, New Zealand, the surge from the left is the towns floodway meeting the sea sending the wave sideways. love the motion of this image, this format is becoming a signature shot for me, the 17mm lens is getting right down to my feet, the lens was very expensive, (NZ$3K) its worth every penny! Shot on a Nikon D700 with 17-35mm Nikkor Lens, ND 8 soft Grad, tripod with weighted bags.

  • I love this area of the beach, so diverse, different rock formations, different water patterns, stunning soft light, sunset is just to the left. The light on this trip was so different to our last trip at Easter, this is July, the light evening and night was so even, at least 70% of my images need very little work. Just one ND filter to tone down the sky. Shot on a Nikon D700 with 17-35mm Nikkor Lens, ND 8 soft Grad, tripod with weighted bags.

  • Well, I could wax lyrical about this light for hour, the beauty was that the sun never got to break through, the clouds kept moving and kept the light subtle, without the cloud cover i’d be shooting straight into the sun and the image would be a right off. just stunning!!!!! Shot on a Nikon D700 with 17-35mm Lens, Cokin ND4 soft grad, Raw files with Active D-Lighting on High.

  • I don’t have the words for this one, as soon as i opened it my jaw dropped, this is everything a water in motion fanatic could want and more, multiple fountain effect of a surging wave crowned with the most magnificent caromello sky. very, very happy with this shot :-) even the jet stream! Shot on a Nikon D700 with 17-35mm Lens, Cokin ND4 soft grad, Raw files with Active D-Lighting on High.

  • About 10k south of Kaikoura, low late afternoon light slips through heavy cloud cover. Shot on a Nikon D700 with 17-35mm Nikkor Lens, ND 8 soft Grad, tripod, processed with Photo Matrix
