Australian Army chopper looms over homes in Brunswick, during a training exercise. Brunswick, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia rant follows Seems too soon after the air show to be coincidence .. but maybe it’s just that they were in the area and decided to drop by. Our society spends most of its money on warfare, one way or another … what isn’t spent on trinkets and other wastes. I guess it doesn’t matter much if the economy is failing, since most of what we accomplish by shovelling paper bills from one side of the room to the other is not related to building houses, teaching people, putting food in their mouths, or fixing their ailments. Maybe these guys were here to remind us there’s a whole other system to back us up if/when the money one fails. But I think if we didn’t build our society on the globally-imposed cult of producing and selling things – including weapons – there would be far fewer machines of war, and far less warfare. Call me a conspiracy nut if you like. But I think there’s alternatives beyond “the invisible hand of the market” vs “totalitarian state” (and i don’t mean Tony freaking Blair).
