I’m on the emailing list for a San Francisco self-publishing company called BLURB.com. I joined but the photographs of my work are still inadequate for book publishing, so I’ll do it some day, not yet. I’ve recommended it to some photographers here because, from just looking at their finished product they seem to do a fine job with photographers, and for self-publishing that’s rare. / Okay, so I just got the following email, and it sounded interesting so I copied it into this journal message for any of you brilliant photographers on RedBubble who wanted to apply. I don’t know how to make links on this, but the copy includes email addresses to check it out. And to whoever wins from RedBubble….you have to take everyone to lunch. / THE FOLLOWING IS THE EMAIL I GOT: Photography.Book.Now celebrates the most creative, most innovative, and finest photography books – and the people behind them. Enter this international juried photography book competition and compete for worldwide recognition and great prizes. Submit your book here by July 14. The Photography.Book.Now international book competition is juried by a panel of world-renowned editors, publishers, curators, and photographers, led by head judge Darius Himes. This is an opportunity to win the $25,000 Grand Prize or one of many other prizes to be awarded. Photography books can be entered in two categories, General and Themed. The winners will be showcased at an awards ceremony in San Francisco, and winning books will travel via a salon to New York, London, and Cologne. The books will also have visibility online and at the half-day symposium featuring panels and presentations exploring photography books. Get more information on the jurors, entry rules, event dates, locations, and prize levels at photographybooknow.com. • Although I did not shot this photograph, it does include my painting, “Crossing the Road, Polyptych (4), mixed media on canvas that was juried into the “2007 Black Creativity Exhibition” held annually at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry. This was the first time that I’d entered this competition, so I was surprised to be chosen out of over 400 to 500 submissions. My daughter Iyahna and I attended the reception together. That’s us in the picture before I lost 35 lbs.!

    Order, Order! / I laugh / in a disorderly case of judgment / Ha,Ha,Ha! / Order,Order!

Words are a very powerful instrument. Through writing we are able to enlighten, encourage, and inspire. Sometimes I have an idea that I want to be viewed as a profound piece of literary art. This is one of those pieces. / I considered what it felt like to be viewed and or judged for whatever reason, and I wanted to create a piece of art that stood out and stood alone. I knew that I would need some help because I didn’t want my voice and perception to be the only one. / What you are reading…or have already read…is a collective voice…..broken down into indivuidual segments. Each voice unique and beautiful in it’s own right. TOGETHER THE VOICES ARE AS LOUD AS THUNDER! THEY ARE THE VOICES OF: / MARKEZZACKUI / RICARDO PEREZ JR / AND / COLORBLIND

Hello everyone. I have so much exciting personal art news to share with you! Last fall I joined the Quinte Art’s Council (QAC) in my area. They have a program called Art in the Community. After waiting patiently for a year I finally received a call to start participating in this program. My first two art pieces went on display at the Belleville General Hospital gallery last week. Here are the two pieces I chose: Portrait of a Black Lab, a digital photo and photo painting completed in Corel Painter X. / Geometric Fantasy, a digital art abstract. I had this one printed up on a 20×30” Archival GW Canvas. / I am excited to say that Geometric Fantasy already sold. A heartfelt thank you to the person in my community who purchased this piece! I have also been selected to be the featured artist at Belleville City Hall. Five of my pieces will be for sale and on display there from November 5 to January 7, 2010. Psychedelic Dream and Simple Pleasures / ....as well as Color me Purple, Maple Drops & Wild Iris. / A picture of my Black Lab and a notice that I would be the featured artist at City Hall was also printed in the local paper (the Belleville Intelligencer) on Friday, October 30th. If all of that wasn’t exciting enough I was also asked to display a piece at the QAC Gallery. This display will also run from November 5 – January 7, 2010. I chose Graceful Ruby for this location. / Earlier this year I made in into my first Juried Art Show. / Raindrops in the Mist, a signed limited edition print, was selected and on display at Art in the County. / My newest work, Dog with a Rose has received 4 features over the past week. A heartfelt thank you to the moderators of Cats & Dogs, Paws ‘n Claws, Dimensions & Digital Brushstrokes and to everyone who left kind comments. / My 2010 calendars are proving to be a hit again this year in my local community. I’ve had to place 3 separate orders so far and may have to do another. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, to everyone who purchased a calendar of Birds of Quinte or It’s all Black & White from me so far this year! I’ve also put a great deal of time and effort into my website over the past year. I still have more work to do but it is getting there. Feel free to visit and see how how your personal website and Redbubble can work together. / A special note to all new & emerging artists just like me – don’t give up! Persistence and patience do pay off! There will be disappointment and closed doors along the way but when one door closes, I have always found that a new one opens! In closing I would like to take the time to thank everyone who has supported me, offered words of encouragement, and for all the kind notes left on my work. With a busy life, work, children, trying to find the time to create etc., I don’t always have time to make the rounds on the bubble, near as much as I would like, but please know how much your visits & support are appreciated! • If you have ever been in the unfortunate position of having a pigeon glare at you, please understand that you are undergoing a judgement. The said bird will probably be looking at you sideways somewhere around your feet. If you are truly unlucky your interrogator will hop on the table and the third degree will start at eye level. Expect your soul to be searched, dissected, weighed and analyzed and you will come up wanting. While all this is going on you will probably be dimly aware of several more jurors appearing at the periphery. Your judgement awaits, the time has come, your fate is in the balance…....but, the jury can be bought… Though it might pain your heart to do so, pick up the last of your donut and fling it onto the road, stand up quickly and move on…...
