Red Bubble’s First Book /// In the Moment /// Overall Winner / I found myself in Geneva for a week for work last year. The only other time I had been to Switzerland was Zurich for 2 nights in the middle of winter, so I was kind of surprised by the beautiful (and hot!) summer weather I experienced on this visit. / The Lake at Geneva is where everyone goes to cool off and I was mesmerised watching all these crazy dudes doing amazing things off a high-dive on the edge of the lake. I took a few shots and managed to capture this moment among them. / I entered this work into the 2007 Linden Gallery Post Card Show in St.Kilda, and was absolutely stoked to have been awarded one of the six entries to be reproduced as postcards and sold through the gallery.

WILD AND FREE / / As I said on my “Polar Love” image, this was the best day of our Arctic trip. We were so lucky to spend hours with this mum and cubs as they moved around the ice flows. These cubs were around seven months old and full of joy – although they did not seem all that keen to follow mum this time! / / The sea ice is shrinking at an alarming rate, which has a huge impact for the bears as this is their main hunting ground. More and more bears are being found to have drowned while trying to find the ice, even though they can swim up to sixty miles or so! / / I hope the ice does not completely vanish and that they always have somewhere to hut! I have the privilege to work with some of the most talented models and dancers in the world. Giulia is by far one of my favorites and a dear friend as well. To achieve these images takes a lot of work, on a normal day we can shoot over 400 jumps to get the best images. Each jump has to be adjusted to look right in the camera, and we experiment with different angles and lighting set-ups as well. There are no trampolines, she jumps from and lands on the floor. The model is Giulia Piolanti, and Italian gymnast turned modern dancer turned Cirque du Soleil performer, and she will be appearing in a new Cirque productiion in Tokyo later this year.
