just a love story
RB Featured Art Page April 2009 I just LOVE this song! :) Love Story We were both young when I first saw you / I close my eyes / And the flashback starts / I’m standing there / On a balcony in summer air See the lights / See the party, the ball gowns / I see you make your way through the crowd / And say hello, little did I know That you were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles / And my daddy said stay away from Juliet / And I was crying on the staircase / Begging you please don’t go, and I said Romeo take me somewhere we can be alone / I’ll be waiting all there’s left to do is run / You’ll be the prince and I’ll be the princess / It’s a love story baby just say yes So I sneak out to the garden to see you / We keep quiet ‘cause we’re dead if they knew / So close your eyes / Escape this town for a little while ‘Cause you were Romeo, I was a scarlet letter / And my daddy said stay away from Juliet / But you were everything to me / I was begging you please don’t go and I said Romeo take me somewhere we can be alone / I’ll be waiting all there’s left to do is run / You’ll be the prince and I’ll be the princess / It’s a love story baby just say yes Romeo save me, they try to tell me how to feel / This love is difficult, but it’s real / Don’t be afraid, we’ll make it out of this mess / It’s a love story baby just say yes / Oh oh I got tired of waiting / Wondering if you were ever coming around / My faith in you is fading / When I met you on the outskirts of town, and I said Romeo save me I’ve been feeling so alone / I keep waiting for you but you never come / Is this in my head? I don’t know what to think / He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring And said, marry me Juliet / You’ll never have to be alone / I love you and that’s all I really know / I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress / It’s a love story baby just say yes Oh, oh, oh, oh / ‘Cause we were both young when I first saw you Taylor Swift

a watercolor painting of romeo and juliet on fabriano paper 11×14
Lino cut on canson paper.I was a ballet dancer and danced with the Royal Ballet and the Australian Ballet! / One of my favourite ballets was “Romeo and Juliet! I love the music and one day was listening to the part where Romeo arrived at the ball wearing a mask so he wouldn’t be recognised. This lino cut represents the many masks we wear in our relationships that manage to weave their intricate web! / / / featured in Behind the Mask

Well, it makes for a good story anyway ;) A street in Verona, the setting for Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet was set. The buildings here date form the 13th century. The city itself dates from 89 BC. Verona has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. More here
Mount Juliet Cairn near Fernshaw, Yarra Ranges NP, Victoria. / Rollieflex SL66, Fuji Velvia film, 1995. / © Ern Mainka ‘Listed on the Register of the National Estate. The Mount Juliet Cairn is associated with the first Victorian Geodetic Survey conducted between 1858 and 1872 which was an important phase in the settlement of Victoria. The Cairn is a rare surviving example demonstrating the skills of the first Victorian survey teams.’ ‘The magnificent natural setting, the sense of isolation it provides and the remarkable cairn on Mount Juliet is highly valued by bushwalkers for the experience the area bestows.’ ‘The cairn is 18 feet (5.5 metres high) and 15 feet (4.6 metres) in diameter at the base. Mt Juliet is approximately 1,600 metres high, one of the highest mountains in this area, although Mountain Ash regrowth at the summit currently restricts the view of the surrounding hills. According to George Start, the cleared area around the cairn was visible from the fire tower on Mt St Leonard during the 1950s, but the regrowth of Mountain Ash following the 1939 fires has now reached a height that obscures the summit and views from the summit.’ More info at Dept. Environment website The walking track to the summit is still accessible. It is maintained by Melbourne Water however it is a very arduous, steep track and was not clearly defined toward the top when we climbed it in 1995. Historical photo of the cairn. / -
Camden Markets, London. I was in that kind of mood, which is odd considering the generally goth/emo/punk/alternative lifestyle I was surrounded by.
All work on this site is being sold for the Phoenix appeal. / This will be for as long as is needed. / I live in Englad now but lived in Australia for ten years, / while growing up and have family out there. / They are safe. I am trying to keep things simple and making monochrome work does this. It means I can concentrate on the picture and not the pallette. It came out of my head as I have no friends brave enough to pose for me. A SECRET SMILE, A SILLY GRIN, / A SECRET TOUCH OF BOOT OR SKIN, / I THOUGHT WE HAD A SPECIAL THING, / APPARENTLY, IT WAS JUST A FLING. I THOUGH I HAD A SPECIAL FRIEND, / SOMEONE TO LOVE AN EAR TO LEND, / IT SEEMS THAT IT WAS ALL PRETEND, / ENOUGH TO WANT MY LIFE TO END. I THOUGHT WE HAD A MAGIC SPARK, / I USED TO LOVE THE WAY WE TALKED, / AND THEN WE USED TO HAVE A LAUGH, / WE COULD BE SERIOUS, WE COULD BE DAFT, THE TROUBLE IS I CAN’T FORGET, / THAT ONLY LEADS ME TO REGRET, / THERE IS NOTHING THAT I CAN DO, / TO BRING IT BACK, WAS UP TO YOU. I KNOW I HURT YOU VERY BAD, / YOU DIDN’T TELL ME YOU WERE SAD, / YOU DIDN’T TELL ME WHAT YOU THOUGHT, / THAT’S WHY I THOUGHT YOU CUT IT SHORT Please see secret smile for the rest of this poem
Background – imageafter.com / Bottle of poison – imageafter.com / Model – Homnoct_stock.deviantart.com / Created in photoshop CS3 / Brushes / Romeo and Juliet O Romeo I love you so / I shall never let you go / How can I hate such a beautiful face / No one could ever take your place / not even Paris / Our love history shall always cherish / I cry more for you than a thousand kinsmen / And pray for forgiveness to heaven / I would rather die than be untrue / And most of all Romeo / I will always love you / —-Gwen /
An illustrated scene from the tragic story of Pyramus and Thisbe. Medium: Indian ink, Gray wash, and Photoshop CS2.
A deceptively simple image, one that some may even think to label boring. That’s ok, art is always going to be subjective. When I walked into this room however this view literally took my breath away. It was of course all about the light. The way it softly caressed the seat, and invited the wood panelling around the window and on the arm of the seat to soak up some of the rich colour of the walls. Sending smoky tendrils around the entire room, softly…softly… before boldly landing on the floor to make such an emphatic statement. The wooden floorboards, unable to contain the power of the light seek help from the fireplace and reflect some up to its helping hands. This image for me truly is a love affair, a fleeting rendevous that will stay with me forever.
