Tampa, Florida USA The National Coalition for the Homeless issued its report on Tuesday that violence against the homeless is spiking across the country. It was the second year Florida ranked first in the statistics complied by this advocacy group, partly because of the 2006 beatings of three Fort Lauderdale men by assailants using baseball bats and a golf club. One victim died, and three teens have been charged with his murder. I hope they ALL fry. So many people are homeless here in Florida. In fact – I too have been homeless at some points in my life while at UNI (raised myself from age 14 when my Granny died – as not to go to foster care – I ran from the reservation). So – the next time you look over at that ‘sorry-ass-homeless-dirty-drunk’, dont be so quick to judge! Because I got news for you… You are only a mere pay check away from that very position yourself! So – get that nose out of the air! Spend the time used judging and or laughing at them – talking with them. You will then see they are exactly like you and I. Only – they may have social problems – mental problems – emotional and or physical problems. They arent lazy – they HAVE PROBLEMS! No one would chose this lifestyle! Been there – done that and this set of steps says everything being homeless means: Cold – Hard – Unforgiving – Scared – Insecure – beat down with nowhere to lay down! But after some time passes – you begin to not care how hard and cold the steps are… just as long as no one is staring – laughing or whispering. Yet – no one seems to have that same amount of time to help another. Ponder that! I handed a man a dollar at a store one day. 6 months later I had taught him to read. He too looked like a ‘sorry ass lazy drunk’. He was a good man with all of the potential in the world! But until me – no one had asked. He now reads – writes – works and maintains a residence. I ABSOLUTELY would NOT use an actual homeless person to exploit in order to get this issue touched upon. I instead used an object as I know how it feels – therefore – I know it looks. I didnt need to shoot some man or woman under a shopping cart and newspaper to get my point across – for I have been without a home. I can use my experience to get my point across rather than exploit an individual. / ______ / / / _____ / All The Materials Contained May Not Be Reproduced, Copied, Edited, Published, Transmitted Or Uploaded In Any Way Without My Permission. “For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.” And these righteous ones will reply, “Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you?” And the King will tell them, “I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these, you were doing it to me!” Matthew 26:35-40 *photo taken in Baja CA, right before we crossed the border back into California after spending the day with the kids at Door of Faith Orphanage in Chula Vista

CATHEDRAL OF OUR LADY (ONZE-LIEVE-VROUWEKATHEDRAAL) Antwerp’s Cathedral of Our Lady is one of the most impressive Gothic churches in all of the Low Countries—and it is the largest. With construction spanning the years 1352 to 1521, a 403-and-a-half-foot spire liberally iced with Gothic frills, and a forestlike interior of seven aisles, the cathedral is a sight to behold. Sadly, religious turmoil over the years has stripped the interior of its original elements, and today it is larded with late (and uninteresting) baroque embellishments. However, there are four altarpieces by—wait for it—Rubens /

This is a project actually started this summer about one week after my brother David died form aids. When I would leave his apartment, I would always walk a little with Joel, (my brother’s life long friend, and now my brother) and or Chris, (my O.G. and “brother” as well). Sometimes we would go are own separate ways. Spending time to sort through my thoughts. Trying to realize how in control I actually was. Why? How? Thoughts were not a raging vortex of confusion any more. As a matter of fact, everything was so clear and things that I had never seen or felt or thought, were now, apart of my being. On this day, I met, walking with my daughter and Chris, The Man James. / What follows is my awakening. “Hey it can’t hurt to ask, right.”

RECORD DEALS
by JaneAParisEveryone at the record company laughed all the time about the fact that their boss and the owner of the company looked like an old drunke…
Remember the old saying, ‘Never judge a book by its cover.’ Especially when it involves a big record deal… Written for short story competition inspired by David Malcolmson’s Hail, Fellow.
