My flight to Rome is due Aug 24th, a week + a day from now! I’ve been really busy with the packing and preparation lately; and have been slow on comments; I still come on RB everyday though and look at a few works, and for those new works I haven’t left a comment on, it isn’t because I’m trying to be ignorant! I’ve been running around, but I’m never totally away from the bubble; though I’m less active now than I used to be. My packing is almost done but I’ll probably be going back to see what I can take out of my luggage to ensure I don’t go beyond the weight limit :P. I’ve always managed to be below the weight limit; but this time I’m going away for 8 months; accommodating for both the hot season and the cold season (Rome is very hot in September; and London can be very cold in winter); plus I have to carry some school stuff with me this time, and I can anticipate that I’ll be buying more things in Rome; and maybe London too. To Europe and back I can have two luggages checked in, each weighing up to 50lbs. plus one carry-on – this I am used to. However, while flights within Europe are cheap, the luggage limit is more strict; Ryan airlines allows one check in up to 15 kg (33lbs.) and one carry-on so I have to try to not bring too much now anyhow (If anyone knows some better deals I’d love to hear! A train ride option would be nice too if any :) ). Aside from packing I’ve just reformatted my laptop. During my previous school semester my laptop kept running into many problems and I had such a difficult semester partly because of that. Strangely though, after the semester was over and I began my internship, I stopped running into those errors – as though my laptop had a personality of its own and just decided to go on strike during the school semester (Hmmm, maybe it’s time I give it a name :p). During school I always have to do so much work on the computer; doing heavy graphics from time to time, and keeping the computer on over night – I make it work hard; it must really hate school :P So the past 7 months I didn’t run into problems but decided to reformat to be on the safe side; let my laptop forget all the torments from school in the same old town and let it enjoy brand new memories in Rome ~ so long as it doesn’t get stolen :P (has happened to some students who went to Rome in previous years). If that happens I can’t share my Rome photos with you lovely people here so let’s all hope everything goes smoothly! Ciao!

Hi all! / I’m heading down to Victoria next week for a whole week of nothing but photography and relaxion!! I can picture my self there now….no kids, no hubby, no phone….just me and my camera! I haven’t been away on my own for quite some time now….so this trip will be good to rejuvinate both my mind and body! / I’m told there is some beautiful scenery where I’m going, so I think the photos will turn out ok! / Then, when I return, it won’t be long before I will be heading to outback Queensland with a girlfriend, we will be going across Sturts stony desert, catching plenty of Barra, and going to Longreach….can’t wait! / When I get back, you will see where I’ve been! / Take care fellow bubblers!

Today I cruised. For some reason I left the camera in the boot of the car and just drove across part of Idaho and Oregon and observed the world. I pass a steady stream of trucks travelling in the on the interstate highway. When you are on the interstate you realise how much of America moves by 18 wheeler. Amongst things I see are a fleet of FedEx trucks – probably filed with all those white FedEx boxes. SUV’s are the transport of choice in areas like Idaho. Some run huge double tyre back axles the make them even wider. Some are so tall I could drive under them. A Collie dog sticks its head up out the tray of an SUV to check that the 75 mph wind still hasn’t subsided. The highway travels past RV sales yards. Rows and rows of white boxes on wheels awaiting the nuclear family to take them on a holiday adventure. It’s strange that there are any RV’s in these yards since I seem to past hundreds on the road each day. A motorcyclist rides past – hair from a helmet-free-head flowing in the breeze. Idaho certainly does have strange freedoms including the freedom to drool uncontrollably as your family care for you in hospital. Johnny Cash and U2 play on the satellite radio as the Mustang consumes more gasoline at non-to-economical rate and becomes more encrusted with the bugs that signal the start of summer in the Idaho fields. The fields themselves are tended by the gentle spray of water from irrigation gantries that from thousands of feet above create giant lilypads of green. The sight of a few U-haul trailers and trucks make me wonder if people in these times are moving more and more in hope of a new beginning. I wonder if it’s a new millennium version of the journeys that Steinbeck wrote about.. I drive through a small town and get my car filled up with petrol – I’m not sure where in Australia you can get driveway service but it comes as refreshing change. You can’t get travel tips from a fuel pump but you can from Max as he rejuvenates the windscreen to a bug free state. I pull out and continue to my way as perfectly random small fluffy clouds float above in the sky. The white mountain peaks act as distant beacons of guidance for travellers. This traveller cruising the roads on a journey of new experiences.

Hi there, / My wife and I will travel to Australia in October and we look forward for a great time. Our travel route goes from the north-east (Cairns) down to the south-east (Adelaide) with a longer stop in Sydney. Now if anybody of you can give us some advice what to see and visit this would be really nice! Especially interesting for us are places for taking good photos: interesting motifs, special things, great vistas. Of course we plan ahead with the usual travel guides (Lonely Planet), but a hint from the locals is always better :-) Have a nice day! / Walter

I haven’t had much photography training unfortunately. I did a Creative Arts course at Uni where I did one photography subject though, and that’s where I really started to see the world through the lense of a camera. Most students in that class focussed on digital photography, but I loved developing black and white photo’s in the darkroom. There’s something magical about the way the image appears. My focus at that time was on architectural shots. I particularly liked shots which looked up. There are some great things at the tops of buildings or on ceilings. (I’ll be uploading a few of these shots into my gallery tomorrow.) Then for years I didn’t really take many photo’s because I didn’t have access to an SLR camera, which I missed. I finally bought a Cannon 400D digital SLR camera in September this year and I LOVE it! It came to New Zealand with me on holiday where I took my first travel shots. (It was set to automatic though because I’m not sure how to use the manual functions and have forgotten a lot about photography techniques! I hope to do a short course soon). My goal is to travel the world and take photo’s which encapsulate the essence of the places I go to and the moments I experience. So please check back regularly as I’ll be putting up more photo’s from New Zealand and my hometown of Melbourne until I make it to Britain and Europe next year. Wish me luck! I still have heaps to learn. :D

Who would have thought 12 years ago, my life would not only take me in a direction / with great interest in photography, but also traveling across our great nation only to find / myself heading toward that place that has been calling to my heart and spirit since 2000. / Charleston South Carolina has wooed my heart from the get go on my first venture there / in October of 2000. I was pondering where to plant my artistic roots and home, when / I did a 180º turn around and headed in the other direction to the west coast, Manhattan / Beach, Ca. Nope … that wasn’t it … and finally to have settled upon Taos, New Mexico / (site unseen) for a lovely 6 1/2 years. A Job position moved me back to the Northern Midwest for a short 8 mos, but that / well dried up, and now I find myself on another journey. This one takes me / to South Carolina, back to where my first journey began. Won’t I have a lot of lovely photo opportunities there? And isn’t it funny how the circle comes round. I am sharing this with my friends in my journal, as I will probably be inactive with Red Bubble for a little while anyways. Thinking of you all and wishing the best here in Red Bubble Community. / “Courage has wings and takes flight, no matter the obstacle” Diane Rodriguez

Well tomorrow morning, in the wee hours, I leave for India…my three week adventure to travel the country….plane….train….and foot. I have mixed emotions. There will be so much beauty, colour and culture….but also alot of poverty and pain. I know my experience will leave me changed, and I hope that will have a positive flow on affect on those I come into contact with. I hope to capture part of my experience on camera and look forward to sharing the photos with you when I get back. Coralie

Okay, so I went, I saw, I came back! LOL! I am back from my week long and tiring trip. I will post pictures of it soon. Until then, I am back to RB and catching up on EVERYTHING. I am going through my bubble mails, finishing up my snail mail project to send that out in a few days, and am working on some new stuff to post in my portfolio. Right now, it is all about tackling my BMs as I came back to over 130 of them!! Yikes!!!! I will sort it out and get back on track, just give me a second or two! LOL! I will also catch up on commenting on ll the fabulous new works that I see posted!!!! I am also updating my blog as well as a bunch of other stuff in my general, everyday, non-red bubble life…so much to do, so little time!!!! Cheers! ~ b.chris :o)

Wow, what adventures, what interesting times I live, what a blessing to merge in other cultures… one so warm, intriguing and generous. So much can be said about my journey first through Bolivia, which I have to say was filled with such diverse scenery, it struck me that I could be travelling through more than one country! From busy city life, to white eternal stretches of salt…pure and enticing, to mountanious hills of rich green woodland, to an extention of the amazon jungle with all the rich wild life that resides there. Of course the highlight of this part of my journey was entering the brown, murky, sulphur smelling river with it’s inhabitants of alligators, piranahas and the reason I did…pink river dolphins! What a gift to see these shy yet playful creatures, so curious in their approach and once contact was made the games were on… circling and splashing at us. I had travelled many miles for the privilege and was not disappointed!! Our lives in these pertinent moments seem so insignificant it’s as if we have lost sight of the essence! So I am back, with many tales (not tails) and meaningful experiences firmly tucked on my belt and ready to share all. Besides the resounding affect the entire journey has had on me, it has been my great joy to shoot a lot of it and what a gift to be able to share in picture form much that can not be told by human tongue. I submerge myself in the richness of every experience, not wanting the overwhelming feelings of enlightment, adventure and great joy to disappear as one returns to the rigmarole of every day life. My journey continues…
