  • "The Jonas Brothers 3D Experience" Premiere (Jonas! Jonas!... and the other one!)

Another ‘two in two days’ premiere situation, with yesterday’s A Night At The Museum Premiere with Ben Stiller, Ricky Gervais and Hank Azaria being followed by today’s Jonas Brothers 3D Experience premiere. The deal with the Jonas Brothers appears to be that each is separately about 1/3 of a Zac Efron, but in combination might almost be as ‘powerful’ though the target market appears to be slightly younger. And I swear I was there mostly in case Taylor Swift showed up…. / The Jonas Brothers. They’re so big even their posters need to be roped off by security / Eye contact from 2 of the 3 Jonas Bros? What do I win, and can I exchange this for a 4million decibel reduction in the volume of screaming girls and the massive sound system behind me pumping out their live concert (which, horrifically, being live, also includes more screaming girls) / Wow… me and those Jonas Brother are really jiving. Sadly, I am neither aged between 8 and 15 nor female. I’m just here in case Taylor Swift shows up. As I said. / The wide shot. When I was first ensconced in my position, I was worried that the constant musical barrage from the massive speakers behind me would render me homicidal within fourteen or so minutes. Thankfully, the JoBros’ music is kind of blandly inoffensive pop-rock, even if the volume could melt steel girders and confuse migratory birds. / The Jonas Brothers. Three guys joined by friendship, genetics, and possibly a single sentient mass of hair. / My Spidey sense is tingling massively… as a security guard the size of nine panthers cottons on to my JoBro sentient hair theory and is given the order to Take Me Down, OldSchool… / I love the way the fans of the JoBros attribute the ability to read around the other side of signs to the many almost superhuman traits of these singers. / One of the Jonas Brothers, with an actual twinkle in his eyes. (Disney executives high-five each other) / Crowd shot – worth it for the look on the girl’s face in the foreground and the opportunistic fan trying to pass a guitar forward for the JoBros to sign (fair enough, I always take a grand piano with me when the philarmonic come to premieres…) / “Suzie? You’ll never guess who just signed your birthday card” (it’s the one next to the poster on the left) Possibly my favourite shot of the premiere, purely for the genius of the fan and the completely unscripted randomness of me catching it among the placards, photos, journals and posters being held aloft by fans (oh, and disturbingly, upon closer inspection, Suzy appears to be called “Dirk”) / The portfolio of fans attracted to the Jonas Brothers is always expanding (insert more high fives at Disney). Yellow Cap Guy, sadly, does not appear to be a fan – I didn’t see him at this premiere. Fair enough, he did seem very miserable at the Zac Efron movie, and it attracted a similar crowd demographic / “Dwight? I think the nightclub is over there…” / I… just… can’t… not… watch. Who are these people, and why do they look so ridiculous and do they know where they are? / ... and the more you photograph it, the less sense it all makes… / Dear Ironik. The fact you sampled Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” for a UK top 3 hit, to which your main contribution is singing “uh…. uh… hold me close, yeah, hold me close now” does not make you quite as cool as you think you are. Also, ... what the hell are you doing at a JoBro premiere??? / Which one is my favourite Jonas Brother, I hear you ask? Well, whichever has the name a) Zeke, b) Billy-Bob or c) Jebediah. All that aside, I do like the thoughtful expression on this particular JoBro. Or rather I would, if the lack of a neck on his security guard wasn’t always drawing my attention to itself. / (left) This is Philip Schofield and he is a famous British TV presenter. I felt it was necessary to research his identity, because, quite frankly, his daughter is stunningly beautiful, and we appear to have perhaps made a lasting connection. (or it could be the effect of that particular JoBro song we both like…) / All smiles. They know that instead of the exhaustion of having to actually play a world tour, they’ve filmed one concert once and can now travel the world and promote it (Disney executives : give yourself another round of high-fives!) / ”... and should we mention the satanic lyrics and our upcoming shift to thrash metal?” (Disney executives : faint) Well, it was a premiere and Taylor Swift the beautiful Miss Schofield did show up so it all ended rather well. Next up? Apparently a small-ish horror movie called “Tormented” next week. ... and after that I believe the next one I’ll be able to attend is Transformers II. Farq. I don’t like my chances of it being even as well behaved as a JoBro premiere (which is kind of like saying an Aston Martin should be cheap because at least it doesn’t cost as much as a Lamborghini…) (or something) And so, it joins the growing archive Of which the last few additions were: / A Night at the Museum2 – Stiller! Gervais! Azaria! / State of Play – Mirren! Crowe! / Star Trek – JJ Abrams! Eric Bana! Sylar! / 17 Again – Zac Efron! Eeeee!! / The Boat that Rocked – McCartney! Halliwell!.. even some of the Cast showed up! / Fast and the Furious – Walker! Brewster! Rodriguez! Vin Diesel gives us a couple of minutes of his precious time! Until next time!

Allow me to preface this by saying some of you know me extremely well; some of you know me only by name. And I’m about to give you all the opportunity to know me a bit more. It will come as a great shock to many of you what I’m about to reveal; some of you will smile to yourself, shake your head and take it in stride. Others will fight the urge to run and possibly condemn me. I’m okay with that. So, here goes…. I adore the Jonas Brothers. / You will now have a three second pause to pick yourselves up off the floor. Okay. Sit down and get comfy because you’re about to get a good ol’ fashioned education that could very well turn into a tongue lashing a la Lorie style. No, I am not a fan of most pop music nor am I the intended audience for this band that has become the biggest pop sensation to sweep the world. That being said, I have the utmost respect for these three Jersey boys that came from nothing and climbed to stardom with their own blood, sweat and tears. Now for those of you that are sitting there tisking at me and rolling your eyes, shut up and listen for a minute because there are some things you should know before you pass judgement on me or the guys. (Quite frankly I don’t care if you pass judgment on me because if you do, you’re not much of a friend anyway but I digress.) These three brothers, Kevin (21), Joe (20) and Nick (16) do – contrary to popular belief – write all their own music and lyrics, play their own instruments and were NOT fabricated by a record label to generate dollars. These guys are the real deal. Now if you still want to sit there like a bulbous snob, feel free. Ironically I’m not here today to talk about their music. I want to talk about their generosity and giving nature – something that many people don’t know anything about. For instance, did you know that they have their own charity? It’s called Change For The Children and is meant “to support programs that motivate and inspire children to face adversity with confidence, determination and a will to succeed”. And did you know they donate a set percentage of their earnings to various non-profit groups? Yeah. They do. And did you know they’re constantly playing benefits to help raise money for different causes? Yeah, they do. One example of this is how they spent their Friday night this past weekend. Not out partying, not living it up like proper stars. They spent the evening in NYC doing a show to help homeless kids. They bussed in kids from shelters to come to the show for free and sent them all home with backpacks filled with school supplies, healthy snacks and pre-paid emergency cell phones. AND they raised over $18,000 for the Robin Hood Fund. When was the last time you did something like that? I know I never have. And this is far from the first time they’ve done such a thing. Last month Joe had a Fun Run in Texas to benefit the Special Olympics of Texas. Prizes were awarded to runners and over $20k was raised for the cause. Recently Nick spoke (twice!) in support of diabetes research funding in Washington – part of a series of appearances in his ongoing fight to raise awareness about Juvenile Diabetes. And over the course of their tour this summer they played softball to raise money for charity too – the “Road Dogs” raised over $22,000 from ten games! I could go on and on about the fundraisers they’re organized and benefits they’ve played but I’ll let you guys read about all that on your own – there’s a lot. (Or who knows – maybe I’ll write another one of these oh-so-enlightening little notes for you!) These guys do NOT have a lot of free time but this is the kind of stuff they choose to do with the free time they do have. I know there are other celebs that do it too, but they publicize it. It’s known. Everyone KNOWS about Angelina and her kids, Leo and his environmental work, etc. But honestly, what do you really know about the Jonas Brothers? If you’re anything like I was a year ago, not much. But hopefully I’ve enlightened you a little bit and perhaps even inspired you to learn a little more about them. They’re brilliantly talented, intelligent, GIVING people that deserve every single good thing that happens to them. Check ‘em out. Change For The Children / nickssimplewins.com
