Taken in 1966, this is one of my favourite images of the 60’s of the iconic DJ, Sir Jimmy Savile OBE. I took the shot when I was 20 during my assistant days at 1:15 am, after a long advertising shoot for a petrol company with my boss, top fashion and advertising photographer John Cowan. I asked Sir Jim if I could run a couple of rolls of film for my portfolio. True gent that he is, Jim said “Sure!” even though every one was pretty tired after the 5 hour gasoline ad session. Anyhow, this is the result and it remains one of my favourite pictures to this day as it shows Sir Jim as he really was and is – a strong and generous human being who did not take himself too seriously. You are a true professional Jim, and I am eternally grateful to you for giving me this opportunity. When I am an old horsewoman / I shall wear turquoise and diamonds, / And a straw hat that doesn’t suit me / And I shall spend my social security on / white wine and carrots, / And sit in my alleyway of my barn / And listen to my horses breathe. I will sneak out in the middle of a summer night / And ride the old bay gelding, / Across the moonstruck meadow / If my old bones will allow / And when people come to call, I will smile and nod / As I walk past the gardens to the barn / and show instead the flowers growing / inside stalls fresh-lined with straw. I will shovel and sweat and wear hay in my hair / as if it were a jewel / And I will be an embarrassment to all / Who will not yet have found the peace in being free / to have a horse as a best friend / A friend who waits at midnight hour / With muzzle and nicker and patient eyes / For the kind of woman I will be / When I am old.

This is a PS rework or my Jockey’s Ridge Dunes shot in the Outer Banks, NC over a year ago. / Hey Angel!!! I finally joined the group!!
This dried-up tree seemed to be stretching, yearning towards the water-laden heavens, desperate for a quenching rain shower. This photo was taken in North Carolina’s Outer Banks, at Jockeys Ridge Sand Dunes. It’s only a few minutes from where the first flight took off at Wright Memorial Park. Jockeys Ridge is a state park and also the practice location of a hang-gliding school. We saw several gliders on the ground that day, but nobody gliding. The sand was burning-hot and biting on our feet as we explored.

Race Info / Track: Churchill Downs / Date: May 7, 2009 / Race: 5 – Maiden for Maidens, FIllies Two Years Old / Length: 4 1/2 furlongs on the dirt Horse Info / #2 Wild Forest Cat / Florida Bred Grey Filly 2 years old / By D’wildcat, out of Bon Caro by Bon Point / Owned by Lewis G. Lakin and Diane and Roger Stanton / Trained by Steven M. Asmussen / Jockey: Brian J. Hernandez / Results: finished 1st Camera: Canon Rebel XT w/ Canon 75-300mm lens / as is, from the camera, just cropped in photoshop Weather: Very cloudy… track was a mess until Race 6 when it was upgraded to “good.” Panning shot of the winner of Race 5. Loved how I caught the jockey biting his lip. For anyone who knows me, you know I do that while riding, too. Bad habits die hard. Once I managed to bite down over a jump on my old pony in a riding lesson and I nearly bit through my tongue! I am passionate about all horses, but have always had a dream to own and train my own racehorses someday. It probably won’t happen until I retire, if it does happen, but that’s the fun thing about dreams… you can have them even if they aren’t likely to happen. Although, I have been trying to get a plan together for getting friends together after college graduation to go in and buy a share of a racehorse with my boyfriend and I… so maybe it’ll happen sooner than I think :0) Thanks for your views and comments friends! My first attempt at horse racing photography. Enjoy! ♥ Louisville, Kentucky
Can’t seem to find my program from this raceday. I’ll dig it out at some point and update this with info about the horse & jockey. Canon Rebel XT w/ Canon 75-300mm lens Churchill Downs Louisville, KY

Have you seen the film “O brother where art thou”? If so, then you’ll understand the title for this pic. While sorting through some old papaerwork with Alison (my partner) the other week, she found a drawing she’d done when she was 11 years old of a horse riding girl who’d fallen into a muddy puddle. I loved the pic and thought I’d have a go at doing something similar… in my own style of course. So here it is, with a hefty dose of the Thelwell pony drawings as an influence. Incidently Alison said that jodpurs aren’t that stretchy, at least not like I’ve shown in the drawing. In response I adopted a holier than thou pose and replied with just said two words… “Artistic license” Its my get out of jail free card, the card’s getting a bit dog-eared nowadays but it comes in very handy sometimes. Hehehehhehee

Moments after this photo was taken, horse number 8 stumbled and its jockey (the one in the red silks) went with it. Luckily both survived.
Well I am pretty well keen on alpacas as a farm animal. Some friends have donkeys, and with their antics and friendliness I now am a lot more interested in them than I was.
