Since I was a little child I’ve had dreams in which I am falling from a very high tree in the forest. / Sometimes I would even play the dream in the little forest next to our house. It only consisted of / a few very bushy trees and they were the first trees I ever climbed. I was maybe 4. I remember / climbing to the top (which was only like 2 m high but quite a hight for a child) and looking down and / through the bushy needle branches I could see the ground, covered in needles as well. I imagined / that the ground was only anothe row of branches and if I would jump I would break through / them and fall even deeper. I jumped with a pounding heart and hit the ground with playful surprise and a shot of adrenaline.

An old dream: Down in the cave the water is up to our knees. There’s bathtub by the / wall, which is the portal to the underwaterworld. I stand in it to be taken there. The / underwaterworld is the same cave but entirely submerged in water. I collect shells and / small fossilized fish which I find in the mouth of a swimming fish. Some of the fish around / me have plants painted on them. Suddenly the waterlevel drops and a tiled wet floor is revealed. I walk into the next room / where the water has dropped as well, but there’s wet sand on the ground in which I leave / footprints. At the end of that room I see a wall made of water. The water is moving downward, / like a waterfall. I look through the water and notice a brown piano standing there. / It’s pulsating like a heart. The soundwaves it makes are visible in the wall of water.

Solo exhibition “Mine are the dreams of the sleepless” at Pixel ink gallery 12 Constable Street, Newtown, Wellington OPENING NIGHT: Wed 4th November 5:30 – 7:30 pm Exhibition statement: “Mine are the dreams of the sleepless” is like a big headline for my style of art – a line that has been in my head for years, ever since I started turning my dreams into paintings. It sometimes feels like I have several people’s dreams in my head because the contents are too bizarre. They seem as though they must originate from more than one person’s sleeping brain. / These people are left sleepless now, as I have their dreams. / Some paintings in this exhibition are directly painted dreams, whereas others stem from everyday emotions wrapped into symbols, colours and stardust – the fabric dreams are made from. www.diamondsoul.synthasite.com / www.pixelink.co.nz

My book "The Eternity beneath the Bathtub"

My book is finally ready! What started out as a project for myself at the / start of this year has become something I feel proud of to share with others. / 50 pages of dreamy illustrations and surreal childhood memories of / mine are ready to be read. The title “The Eternity beneath the Bathtub” is based on a childhood memory of mine. Our bathtub was not free standing, and when you knocked against the bottom of it while being inside it made a hollow sound (because of the small space between the tub wall and the floor) and I imagined that space to be huge, endless and universe-like and sometimes I was worried the tub would break loose off the bathroom and fall into that hole with me. So I was always rather careful not to move around too much.
