She gives voice to the thoughts we dare not speak aloud, the quips we wish we’d thought of, the melancholy longings of modern life, and does so in a wardrobe to die for. on this date 45 years ago, one of the most loved presidents was assassinated. / it was on this date in novemember 22, 1963, John Fitzgerald Kennedy who wanted to change the world, was taken down by the very people who wanted things to stay the same. / occassionally i wonder, what if…. / what if he hadnt been assassinated.. / would our guys in vietnam had come home sooner? / would the world be in a better place? / would our societies get along? / would racism finally slow down to a nil? / would our country still be a strong one, confident and not living in fear? / we wont ever know / it’s a shame we now have a man who wants to bring peace within this country and around the world, has to worry about facing the same dilemma as the most loved president of our country did. i deliberately shot at this angle, coming up with the title in my head as i was shooting. i didnt want the “end” date there, as if he still lived on, just as his eternal flame lives on.

I took this photo shortly after 9/11. Patriotism was running high after that event and the US flag was being sold everywhere, including the grocery store! I wanted to somehow show how much I loved this country and this is what I came up with. I knew my Dad also loved the American flag (being a Veteran of WW II himself) so I made an 8×10 copy of this and put it in a gold frame for him. He was so pleased with it that it sat on their fireplace mantle for all to see. My Dad died on 6/12/05 in his sleep. My Mom just recently moved from their home of over 62 years into an apartment, but this photo is still in a prominent place in her new “home”. Thanks so much to all you Veterans out there who put yourself in harms way, so that the rest of us back in the US can continue to enjoy the freedom that we so frequently take for granted. An interesting aside: the white rose in front of the flag is called “John F. Kennedy” or “JFK” for short. After taking the photo my husband told me the name of the rose and I thought it appropriate since he was assassinated while serving as President of the United States.

this is a bud of J.F.Kennedy Tea Rose. It has a very strong award-winning fragrance, waxy firm petals and usually grows to 5” across. The plant is almost always in bloom and is about 4’ high. When the wind is blowing at you, the smell is delicious! It grows well in southern NM. Shot with a Canon XTi and Tamron 28-300mm lens. This won the TOP TEN AWARD in the Pure White Rose contest of Stop & Smell the Roses Group , Aug.28,’09 (out of 36 other white roses!) this was FEATURED in the Stop & Smell The Roses Group Sept.7,’09. Actually, it was Featured along with 2 other roses at the same time – MonCheri and Pink Rose Bud after a Rain!
