  • Lilith you could say was the first woman, the first deamon and the first goddess depending on which history you follow and she has been wonderful to research. / she is first mentioned in the story of Inanna. Where she take over a tree, The most noted tale tells how she was Adam first conpanion and made from the same clay it is only after she refuses to be domenated by Adam that she leaves the garden of eden and becomes a sucubuss who steals babys and men’s lives whilst they are a sleep. With some of her discriptions being described as a towering flame, this part of the story may well have been down to natural gas. / In many discription she is betrayed as a many horned demon with wing who can spawn countless others of her kind dayly and even the Cherabin sent after her had to conseed her imortality and so left with a conpromise. / As this is a pre-view i am going to save some of the facts untill she is coloured in, look forward to seeing what you all think

  • Winter Blues
    by TerriRiver

    US$5.32–US$121.60

It was a freezing day while River and I were in the nature park. The trees looked cold but stood tall and strong. This is the same image as the first “Winter Blues” after Gigi told me that I should try a darker color for it. So it qualifies as my third try on this “effect thing” thanks to all the instructions and guidance from my “mentor” on this matter! I guess one could say that I love anything that has to do with nature including the living beings, the woods, the trees, the rivers and streams, and the mountains…. In a way, the trees represent longevity even though my “rational mind” knows they don’t live forever – my “passion” towards the trees is in its “illusion” of the ever lasting life, or perhaps what it always gives back to the earth in living or in death. :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada.

  • The tzadik
    by Moshe Cohen

    US$6.65–US$152.00

Tzadik ( “righteous one;” pl. tzadikim) is a title which is generally given to those who are considered to be righteous such as a spiritual master or rebbe. The root of the word tzadik, is tzedek , which means justice or righteousness. This term thus refers to one who acts righteously. In classic Jewish thought, the true title of tzadik can only be applied to one who not only never sins, but also has eradicated any inclination to do so. The Talmud says that at least 36 Tzadikim Nistarim - anonymous tzadikim - are living among us at all times; they are anonymous, and it is for their sake alone that the world is not destroyed. The Talmud and the Kabbalah offer various ideas about the nature and role of these 36 tzadikim. The image was taken in the Wstern Wall Jerusalem. / Passover April 22 2008.

Yom Kippur – is the Day of Atonement – a day when you make up for all the things you have done wrong and ask God for forgiveness. It is the most important date in the Jewish calendar. / Yom Kippur is a time to think. A time for growth and renewal. This is a good opportunity to think about this time last year: if we had the last year all over again what would we have done differently? / We can all reflect on the following questions: / 1. What does being a good person mean? Am I a good person? In what way am I (or am I not) a good person? / 2. If I could live my life over, what would I change? / 3. What would bring me more happiness than anything in the world? / 4. If I knew I could not fail, what would I set out to do with my life? / 5. What goal left unachieved or project left undone would I most regret next year at this time? Simple questions, but the answers are very complex. Reflection on these answers should really happen all the time, every day, in some form or another. Although only Jewish people observe Yom Kippur, the day’s themes of introspection, renewal, and change are universal. We all need to make time to think about our lives in a more profound way. As Rabbi Stephen Baars puts it, “Yom Kippur is a time to return. A time to dream again the wildest of dreams, and to plan their execution. A time to rethink and regain our refreshing hope in life.” Work in wax, metallic acrylics, pigment, silver leaf and graphite (Number VI in the series) For All My Friends Who Are Observing Yom Kippur, Today. – 9th October 2008 Music – Avinu Malkeinu – Our Father Our King

  • Priestly Blessing
    by Moshe Cohen

    US$6.65–US$152.00

The Priestly Blessing, (Hebrew: Birkat Kohanim), also known in Hebrew as Nesiat Kapayim, (lit. Raising of the Hands), is a Jewish prayer recited by Kohanim during certain Jewish services. It is based on a scriptural verse: “They shall place My name upon the children of Israel, and I Myself shall bless them.” It consists of the following Biblical verses (Numbers 6:24-26): May the Lord bless you and guard you. / May the Lord shine His countenance toward you and be gracious to you. / May the Lord lift up His countenance toward you and give you peace. The source of the text is Numbers 6:23-27, where Aaron and his sons bless the Israelites with this blessing. This is the oldest known Biblical text that has been found; amulets with these verses written on them have been found in graves in dating from the First Temple Period, and are now in the Israel Museum, Jerusalem. Various interpretations of these verses connect them to the three Patriarchs; Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, or to three attributes of God; Mercy, Courage, and Glory. I shot the image during Birkat Kohanim at the Western Wall Jerusalem, Passover April 22 2008. / It’s a new tradition that every Passover there is a mass ceremony of Birkat Chohanim in the Wstern Wall.
