  • This is a view in midafternoon from one of the piers on Lahaina Harbour gazing out over Auau Channel toward the island of Lana’i on the horizon. The majority of Charter services and fishing boats are here in Lahaina Harbour. Lahaina Harbour is about 10 minutes south / of Ka’anapali and about 15 minutes south of of Kapalua. There is also a very nice Ferry shuttling passengers from Maui to Lana’i. Lahaina, located at the foot of the majestic West Maui Mountains, was once a major seaport and the seat of the royal government for King Kamehameha the Great, the first and most revered King of all the Hawaiian islands. During his reign, and well into the 19th century, Lahaina prospered from the lucrative sandalwood trade, which devastated the indigenous Sandalwood forests here on Maui. Later, whaling ships began using the port as a mid-way point to and from the rich whaling grounds off the coast of Japan. Whaleships generated income for Lahaina, but the wild breed of men on board these vessels brought much despair, hardship and disease to the people of these islands. Today Lahaina is a beautiful seaport village with many fine art galleries, museums, wonderful gourmet restaurants, and gift shoppes of all types. There is a special luminous light on this side of the island. Copyright © Sharon Mau 2009 / My images do not belong to the public domain. Reproduction is strictly prohibited. • My first picture with my new D90, taken at Largs Bay in Adelaide.

  • The Wellington Point jetty in Queensland Australia. Canon 40D, f/11, 20 sec at ISO 200.

  • This is a photo I took of Brighton Jetty while on my visit to Adelaide. I had to use my phone’s camera for the photo since I left my good camera back at the hotel. Originally shot in black & white, and re-coloured in photoshop for a fantasy-style effect.

  • Coffs harbour

  • A perfect Late afternoon on the foreshores of Adelaide and I came across this beautiful shot of a seagull taking a drink with amazing views in a Seagulls Paradise!
