  • apophysis 2.02 Love this Grateful Dead Song, though my favorite version of it is with Jerry and David Grisman on the mandolin. Couldn’t find a decent clip of them performing it together so this one is good too. :o) Lyrics: If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine / And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung / Would you hear my voice come through the music / Would you hold it near as it were your own? It’s a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken / Perhaps they’re better left unsung / I don’t know, don’t really care / Let there be songs to fill the air Ripple in still water / When there is no pebble tossed / Nor wind to blow Reach out your hand if your cup be empty / If your cup is full may it be again / Let it be known there is a fountain / That was not made by the hands of men There is a road, no simple highway / Between the dawn and the dark of night / And if you go no one may follow / That path is for your steps alone Ripple in still water / When there is no pebble tossed / Nor wind to blow You who choose to lead must follow / But if you fall, you fall alone / If you should stand, then who’s to guide you / If I knew the way I would take you home

  • 9×12 pastel on Tiziano paper This is a tribute to Jerry Garcia. I was recently watching a video of him singing “Peggy O” in 1994. He gets very emotional during the song and it brought tears to my eyes. This show was about one year before he died. By 1994 The Grateful Dead had become a money-making machine. My generation was kind of the last generation Jerry sung to (those of us in our thirties now). / Jerry Garcia became a musician at a very crucial time in American history. He was part of the whole folk music movement that included Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and a host of other greats. These musicians were discovering the wealth of music that came from the past and they only wanted to share the songs with the world. / “Peggy O” is one of those old ballads that probably made Jerry fall in love with music. The oldest version being an old Scottish ballad. As Jerry sings it in 1994 I think he is feeling some regret for what was lost. Whatever he was feeling, when I watch this video I feel the beauty of the song. / This is Peggy O, a woman like a dove. She wouldn’t marry sweet William because he was only a soldier. William gets angry and dies in battle. I really love folk music because it is mythical in nature. / I hope you are still singing this song somewhere Jerry!!!!! link to Jerry singing Peggy O

  • I found that his artwork, the illustrations are just amazing. Simple shaky line and dabs of color. They were turned into pattern for textile(like ties, bedding, etc.). I made the tree after finding a book about his dreawings at a thrift store in Marin County. I was anopen channel, much like the way his music used to run through me at shows. / thank You Jerry / I miss you!

  • Firstly, i apologize again, for not being here. For a month or more i have been frantically making Christmas presents again, no job, no money, so hand made gifts again this year. Not painted rocks this time (it seems like just the other day i was painting, those, LOL), am drawing round hand drawn pictures, just finished the last drawing 2day, then i have to glue each (about 75) to these round cardboard discs i collected from peanut jars over the years, then put a colored paper clip through these to hang from a Christmas tree branch. This one here, of Jerry Garcia, is for my older brother Jeff, he is a Grateful Dead fan from way back. Hand drawn, pencil And after the Christmas crafts are done, i have a few commisioned pieces for my sister & her husband, one of a neighbor’s Dog, & then some paintings of buoys they have in their yard. i do love & miss you all. / Bigggest Hugggs & Happy Holidays, :O)))))))))

  • I recently made a trip to our local cat shelter to add to our brood and after spending quite a while there, none of the cats seemed like a good fit. Just as I was getting ready to give up, a gorgeous, gigantic grey tabby came up to me and squeaked the most heart tugging meow I’d ever heard. He rubbed against my legs, so I bent down and he raised up on his hind legs like a dog, asking for me to hold him. I sat down and he immediately crawled into my lap, drooled, purred, and gave me kisses and love bites galore. It was a match made in heaven. I was shocked that this incredible creature had not found a home sooner, but so grateful that he could be mine. I was told poor Jerry had been living in the shelter his entire life of 5 years after being found abandoned as a kitten. As time passed and he grew older, he lost his chances of ever finding a home, because, as the kindly shelter worker informed me, nobody wants the older ones. They all want kittens. This broke my heart. I, unlike most, had gone in looking specifically for an older cat. I am forever thankful we found each other. Jerry was his name at the shelter, so I kept it the same, but added the G for fun. He’s named after and resembles, that sweet, grey-haired big man with a big heart, the late Jerry Garcia. PS Jerry G was enjoying a good roll around on the rug and looked at me for a moment upside down, so I caught him that way and kept it that way, and so upside down this capture must stay! / :)
