Traquair house’s famous bear gates which were locked behind the departing bonnie prince charlie in 1745 on his way to the unsuccessful jacobite uprising. The then 5th Earl of Traquair swore they would be reopened only when there was a stuart king on the throne…. Generations of the family have followed his wishes and they remain unopened to this day. ... This is a fascinating and wonderfully preserved place just outside Peebles in the scottish borders and is the oldest continously occupied house in scotland where many kings and queens have stayed (including Mary Queen of Scots and lord Darnley and her infant son later James I whose cradle can be seen here ). It also retains own little working brewery and has a modern day maze perfect for egghunting at easter time… ;)) Further details can be seen if you click here and then you’ll know heaps more than me and nearly as much as joak who solved this fleeting bubble jeopardy entry in no time at all!! well done mate—you’re just brilliant!! ;)))) Taken with a fuji finepix a500.
There’s quite big bit missing from this old scottish castle….....posted as a whodunnit for bubble jeopardy and solved in two by George Swann ;)) It transpires that the englishman Oliver Cromwell started the job in 1650 and after a limited bombardment the castle eventually surrendered. This explains some of the damage to the tower , though part of this fell down due to neglect in 1790. ( a fascinating link here explains more of the history of this special place….) This is neidpath castle built in the 13C castle on the banks of the Tweed near Peebles in the lovely scottish borders. It was attacked in 1650 by Oliver Cromwell who demolished the early tower by cannon fire from the hillside across the river during a seige. A watercolour depiction of the roundheads siege by the very talented local artist Jack Roney (1920 – 2005) is reproduced below with permission of his family (sorry about the flash on glass ) The castle has an ancient well and pit prison and is also said to be haunted by the ghost of Jean Douglas, referred to by Sir Walter Scott as the Maid of Neidpath in a heartrending poem. The story goes that Jean, youngest daughter of the Earl of March. was forbidden to marry her love who was considered below her station, and she pined while her lover was sent away. When he returned she was so wasted and changed that he didnt recognise her, causing her to die of a broken heart. :(( how sad is that…..:(( She’s said to appear in a full-length brown dress with a large white collar…. Thanks for looking / cheers / ding / :))) (Inside view of the “castle by candlelight*”: too

What and… (if you’re very keen) where ….. ? Solved by Craig Maguire below – well done mate! It’s a coatimundi or “coati”: (also called hog-nosed coon, Snookum bear and the Brazilian Aardvark!) : a diurnal mammal, member of the raccoon family (Procyonidae) and native to South, Central and south-western North America. The word “coatimundi” (which I thought it was) is apparantly a commonly used misnomer applied to solitary adult males (which this one seemed to be) snuffling happy about rootling for food unconcernedly in a wild place Jacqi solved the place MEXICO and the more precise location remains to be guessed from clues on another wild pic in my gallery … you’ll get it in a snap! :)))) Posted this shot of his tail due to popular demand – hope it helps – it looks like hes got a fuzzy one from here (oh no he hasnt its just my photography!!) Nikon D60 / Nikkor 18-200 / UV filter (!) / f/5.6 / 1/60 sec / ISO – 1600 / 200mm Slight crop only

50 leaves (maybe a couple more than 50) of various plants from my yard. Compilation of 3 scans. I’ll give it to the one who can name the most!! Some may be grown indoors and outdoors. There may be a couple from the same type of plant, but of different species. Some may be only a leaflet or part of a leaf. How many can you name? Botanical names are not necessary, but if you know use it, because what you call it, may not be the same name as what I call it. Common names can vary by region. So far Doreen has the most with 7 / List of correct guesses so far and their corresponding leaf: / 2. Red Geranium, Geranium sp. / 3. Madgascar Dragon Tree/Red Edged Dracaena, Dracaena marginata / 4.
