  • If you look closely (in the “large” view) you’ll notice that some of the black spots are actually ants. Summer 2007 – Rotterdam, NY / One of my girlfriend’s parents purchased a home that was owned by a Master Gardener and neither of them gardened. They asked me to come and tell them what their plants were, thin some out and feel free to photograph them. After a few hours, I had enough plants to fill half my garden and had filled up my photo cards, not to mention I couldn’t help but trim one of their trees while their backs were turned. I’ve only seen this Oriental Tigerlily at this garden and one other – both having been planted by Master Gardeners. I didn’t have the heart to dig any of them up. I had to lay on my back to shoot this as the blooms point downward.

  • Iced bird feeder in my backyard on the morning of the huge icestorm in northeastern US. We were without power for 6 days as a result of this storm and our neighbor birds had to do without their food. Upstate New York – December 12, 2008 / Canon Rebel XTi w. Canon EFS 55 – 250mm zoom lens

  • Wilton Wildlife Preserve, Wilton, NY – July 2009 There were consistently 10 – 20 of them landing on my & my son’s feet, arms & legs as we sat in the middle of a field where they were flying around. They loved my Nike sneakers. I would’ve prefered to take their photo on a leaf but they preferred my shoes. They are only about 1” in size. Canon EOS 50D w. 50mm EF Macro Lens / Tv 1/400; Av 5.0; ISO 200 “The Karner blue butterfly is on both the NY state and US federal endangered species lists. Estimates are that Karner blue butterfly numbers have declined by 99% over the past 100 years and 90% over the past 10 years. Historically, the Karner blue butterfly’s range extended from Maine to Minnesota. It has disappeared from Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, and Ontario, Canada. In 1998, butterflies were reintroduced to Ohio. Today, Karner blue butterflies can be found in New York, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Scientists believe that the Town of Wilton has the most viable population of Karner blue butterflies in the east.” / - From the Wilton Wildlife Preserve Website / www.wiltonpreserve.org

They prefered to soak up the sun on my Nike sneakers instead of the greenery. I would’ve prefered to take their photo on a leaf. They are only about 1” in size. • My loyal companion for the past 11 years. I cannot imagine my life without my adorable, loveable, oh, so sweet Lhasa Apso Zeus. His name is an oximoron as he wouldn’t harm a fly. Although he has been known to on a rare occassion make a feeble attempt to chase an odd squirrel or two – never succeeding in catching them. Zeus has traveled across both Canda and the US quite successfully. He makes friends wherever he goes and even gets along quite well with our cat Daisy. Zeus and me go together like peanut butter and chocolate :) Canon 50D w. EF28-135 IS lens / Indoor bulb light / Tv 25 / Av 2.5 / ISO 800
