Kiss me darling… A kiss is the touching of one person’s lips to another place, which is used as an expression of affection, respect, greeting, farewell, good luck, romantic affection or sexual desire. The word comes from Old English cyssan “to kiss”, in turn from coss “a kiss”. Anthropologists have not reached a conclusion as to whether kissing is learned or a behavior from instinct. It may be related to grooming behavior also seen between other animals, or arising as a result of mothers premasticating food for their children. Kissing allows prospective mates to taste and smell each other’s pheromones for biological compatibility. Women are subconsciously more attracted to men whose major histocompatibility complex portion of their genome is different from their own, leading to offspring with resistance to a greater number of diseases due to heterosis, and thus having a better chance of survival. Non-human primates also exhibit kissing behavior. Dogs, cats, birds and other animals display licking and grooming behavior among themselves, but also towards humans or other species. This is sometimes interpreted by observers as a type of kissing.

I was walking around Omotesando and Harajuku to kill some time before meeting a friend the other night and found this patch of cosmos flowers. Planted out in the street, behind them were the lights of a shop and a vending machine was providing some light from my side. Just beautiful. Got mesmerised for a good fifteen minutes by these flowers. Nikon D300 / 85mm f/1.4 AF D

A folding fan coming out of a gun. / This idea came about when i was thinking of those pop guns clowns often have. I have wanted to do a design that involved the Japanese folding fans for quite some time. The juxtaposition of two so very different items that are both hand held makes for an interesting design.

This is my tribute to one of the most innovative films I´ve ever seen in years. / The Pillow Book is a 1996 film by UK director Peter Greenaway; main character is Nagiko, a Japanese model. / “The film is a rich and artistic melding of dark modern drama with idealized Chinese and Japanese cultural themes and settings, and centers around body painting.” / “As a young girl in Japan, Nagiko’s father paints characters on her face, and her aunt reads to her from “The Pillow Book”, the diary of a 10th-century lady-in-waiting. Nagiko grows up, obsessed with books, papers, and writing on bodies, and her sexual odyssey (and the creation of her own Pillow Book) is a “parfait mélange” of classical Japanese, modern Chinese, and Western film images.” Well, for those who haven´t seen this film, I highly recommend it. A brief of this film can be found here). Main female figure with clothes and accesories and props conform a cinema4D render; the rest was done in postwork by blending photo-layers and a bit of digital painting.

What you see here is one of several works of art to be posted over the next seven days – the results of a seven day smackdown between myself, and the fabulous Angi Sullins and Silas Toball – where Angi made a traditional collage, and then gave it to Silas and I, letting us loose on it with our photoshop skills. :) For this one – I was really draw to one element in particular, in the original collage. Some orange detailing that made me think of goldfish, or koi. I couldn’t get the image out of my head… no matter that the whole focus of the original collage was BUNNIES! LOL So, instead of following the white rabbit, and dove into the lily pond with the fishies. Here is the original collage: (TO BE POSTED MOMENTARILY)

/ Get the TShirt Tears from Heaven / / The Peacock Empress is a drawing created a couple of days ago, while at the surgery with my daughter, i had a vision of it which impressed strongly in my mind, and i was able to draw it once I got home. The idea was the Empress was rising up over the waters. There’s lots of symbolism in this, but it’s purely for my own benefit and the viewer may decide how the symbolism relates to them…the colour has been done in Photoshop. She has almost taken on the look of an oriental style “Luna Park” entrance at twilight, might be a nice design for those who celebrate “Chinese New Year” and/or collectors of asian inspired/related art
