  • / My ‘First Tree’ is officially published in the coffee table book Artists of the West / For information on purchasing a signed copy of the book, go to Carrie Glenn Studios Thanks! First Tree was Featured in Lifestyles Magazine as part of an article about the Artists of the West coffee table book I am also honored to announce my painting First Tree was a part of the Rialto Towers two week art exhibit in Melbourne, Australia in of July 2007 Acrylic and pastel on illustration paper. (1995) This is truly the first tree I ever painted, the need to paint and create was something brewing so strongly inside I had to do something about it. Yet my resources were very limited, I grabbed the only paint I had any access to, a can of my father’s black spray paint, I sprayed it into the lid of the can and used the only paintbrush I owned a cheep nylon brush from a water color kit and created. I then finished my work with the only two pastels I owned brown and black. / Necessity is the mother of invention, or maybe it’s that there is more than one way to skin a cat. (Sorry cat lovers) At any rate I grew up in a home with very few luxuries but I did have a passion to create, always, I had to feed the creativity. So this is a very special piece to me and I hope to you as well. Down through the dark trees, you came and saved me... • the design is no completely my own I must admit. I found an image online (not sure who to credit but if anyone knows?) and modified it for a stencil I made. This is the cleaned up version of that stencil.

  • My origami calendar / / Just one sheet makes a big difference; / One sheet that can make over 2000 cranes. / Each crane a step closer to a better world; / Each piece a step closer to peace. Each square in the grid paper is 5×5mm; and to be exact, there were 2028 full squares in the paper When I was in grade 5 our teacher read “Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes” to our class. Sadako Sasaki was infected with leukemia. She spent her days folding cranes and making wishes upon them; wishing for her health and for a more peaceful world (the quote above is my writing inspired by the story of the thousand paper cranes). This concept was originally created in 2008, and photographed without a tripod. But now I have a tripod and decided to re-shoot this again and re-uploaded it on September 6, 2009. • This is my tribute to one of the most innovative films I´ve ever seen in years. / The Pillow Book is a 1996 film by UK director Peter Greenaway; main character is Nagiko, a Japanese model. / “The film is a rich and artistic melding of dark modern drama with idealized Chinese and Japanese cultural themes and settings, and centers around body painting.” / “As a young girl in Japan, Nagiko’s father paints characters on her face, and her aunt reads to her from “The Pillow Book”, the diary of a 10th-century lady-in-waiting. Nagiko grows up, obsessed with books, papers, and writing on bodies, and her sexual odyssey (and the creation of her own Pillow Book) is a “parfait mélange” of classical Japanese, modern Chinese, and Western film images.” Well, for those who haven´t seen this film, I highly recommend it. A brief of this film can be found here). Main female figure with clothes and accesories and props conform a cinema4D render; the rest was done in postwork by blending photo-layers and a bit of digital painting.

  • BEAUTIFUL ASIA SERIES Pen and Ink ORIGINAL SOLD 2009 This drawing was inspired by a photograph of Alexandra Felgate. Kindly used with permission as part of the Bubblers portraits group. / I did not try for a true likeness this time, but rather an essence I hope (hence the title). It seemed appropriate to use as part of my Asian series as Alexandra’s detailed and delicate paintings/drawings always remind me of Japanese Art. I hope to use the reference picture again. Alexandra’s Photo Alexandra’s Gallery Thank you so much to Alexandra Felgate for posting this photo of Essence (the original). Hugs xx /
