  • This is a glorious waterfall, that you can swim up to, underneath the under cut rock, and even climb into a cave behind the heaviest part of the falls- the water pressure was incredible, a great massage, and very loud in the cave- and out through a opening higher up! It was a great way to spend an hour or so (we arrived closer to closing time than intended- yes you do have to pay) in East Jamaica. The water was refreshingly cool- though a bit of a shock at first. • At this point the rain (yes, we had more, lots more rain!) started to fall, so we retreated in side to eat dinner, and most people left the beach. I thought this looked rather lonely! • Now the rain was really coming down! You may be able to see the splashes on the sea and in the sand- which was really what I took this photo for. • I painted this 24” x 36” latex house paint on Masonite board painting while in my ‘painting corner’ of the veranda at Hillsview Guesthouse (see prior painting). / Stacy always weighed in on titles and deeper meanings. She decided this young classical face had to be a truer face for God than an old bearded one. Then a story evolved with a great long line of souls (in the foreground with us, not in the picture) approaching God for judgment and admittance to Heaven. With great loving presence God gives each soul a karate chop with his left hand, instantly divesting the soul of all their silly delusions from earth and about Heaven. Then with his open right hand He pats them on the fanny and speeds them forward into the perfect communion of Oneness that awaits. / I could never figure out why we couldn’t sell this work in the little beach side gallery we created. ;-) / So now, over forty years later, I still have it… and send it on to you via RB! / There was a need for a halo effect, so I remember experimenting with the dried paint scum off of a number of paint cans to get the thicker paint to pallet knife into the halo place.

  • During the two years of ‘69 to ‘71 I worked and taught at a school in the center of the island I painted some landscapes and buildings that captured my attention. This view from near the interior town of Christiana I painted with a Jamaica shaped cloud in the sky. The original had three small blue dots to show where I lived or visited friends on the island. (I’ve experimented enhancing the dots on this version) Knox College in the center near Christiana, Montego Bay to the west (left) and Kingston to the east. / It is a latex painting on 16” x 24” Masonite board. (1971)
