Jaffa, an ancient and beautiful city, is located in the south of Tel-Aviv. Jaffa is a mixed city with Jews, Christians and Muslims living together in harmony. The three arab women found a great place to sit, talk and relax while watching the Mediterranean Sea. The photo was taken on April 14, 2007.

“It takes little effort to watch a man carry a load.” (Chinese Proverb). The photo was taken in Jaffa, an ancient city, located in the south of Tel-Aviv. Jaffa is a mixed city with Jews, Christians and Muslims living together in harmony. Philip J.Baldensperger, wrote in “Women in the East”: “The women are very dexterous in carrying loads on their heads and keeping them in equilibrium. Everything, except the babies and the skin water-bottle, is carried on their heads.”

Jaffa Gate (Hebrew: Sha’ar Yafo, Arabic: Bab el-Khalil), also David’s Gate (Hebrew: Sha’ar David) , is a stone portal in the historic walls of Jerusalem’s Old City; it is one of eight gates in Jerusalem’s Old City walls. The Jaffa Gate is so named because it is the portal for Jaffa Road, the precursor to the modern highway to the ancient port of Jaffa and the Mediterranean coastal plain.

Watercolor painting. / The picture is based on the image Jaffa fishing port taken by my husband. Jaffa is an ancient port city located south of Tel Aviv, Israel on the Mediterranean Sea. Today it is a borough of the city. It is mentioned four times in the Hebrew Bible, as one of the cities given to the Tribe of Dan (Book of Joshua 19:46), as port-of-entry for the cedars of Lebanon for Solomon’s Temple (2 Chronicles 2:16), as the place whence the prophet Jonah embarked for Tarshish (Book of Jonah 1:3) and as port-of-entry for the cedars of Lebanon for the Second Temple of Jerusalem (Book of Ezra 3:7). It was also an important city in the Arab Middle East. During the Crusades, it was the County of Jaffa, a stronghold of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. Card category fine art. Happy Passover.

Celebrating the Re-unification of Jerusalem, on the anniversary of the return of the Jewish nation to the Western Wall hundreds of Israelis from all walks of life celebrate with flag march through the centre of town and through the gates of the old city to get to the Kotel (Western Wall) with concerts on the way and a big concert and ceremony and concert at the end of the parade.

I found this unique set of windows in the old city of Jaffa (Israel). I was inrigued by the fact that neither of these windows is in fact, a really window: both are blue-painted pieces of sheet-metal.
