John Everett Millias’ painting titled, “Ophelia” was the inspiration for this Mixed Media. / Acrylic . / Sealing wax and Bee Stamp. Emily Dickinson’s poem, “The Gentian Weaves her Fringes.” The Gentian weaves her fringes - / The Maple’s loom is red - / My departing blossoms / Obviate parade. A brief, but patient illness - / An hour to prepare, / And one below this morning / Is where the angels are - / It was a short procession, / The Bobolink was there - / An aged Bee addressed us - / And then we knelt in prayer - / We trust that she was willing - / We ask that we may be. / Summer - Sister - Seraph! / Let us go with thee! In the name of the Bee - / And of the Butterfly - / And of the Breeze—Amen! Actually, the Ophelia image was the springboard for this Mixed Media work. It seems there were a lot of false starts with this one. Initially, I tore up a copy of the Ophelia and scattered and glued it to the surface of the canvas. Hoping to achieve a dream-like quality that would honor Millias, and inspired by the altered art genre, I moved forward. Then, I applied layers upon layers of paint. When I did not like what was happening to the piece, I did not discard it I simply worked around it. I added to it, a little cross with red sealing wax bees. Hours and hour of joy… In some way, Millias’ Ophelia looks as if she is giving a benediction, and this is why I chose to place the closing lines of Dickinson’s poem with it. In the name of the Bee- / And of the Butterfly- / And of the breeze Amen! Emily Dickinson and I would have been great friends. /

Digital manipulation of “English and its Articles” without the lettering. / Collage. / Mixed media. / Acrylic on canvas. / Found photos. / Altered Art. I have a collection of affordable found objects from Antique stores. Some folks call what I do as Antiquing, I tend to call it Junking, because the stuff I acquire is really just someone’s junk like garage sale finds and second hand store castoffs. If you can only afford what some folks call junk, sometimes you can really find treasures. The moment I found the idyllic photos, I remembered Henry David Thoreau’s, “Time is but the stream I go a-fishing in.” At that little store, I had the seeds of a future project in the palm of my hand. Initially, I planned on grouping the photos and putting them to text. I wanted to document a part of the process, so here is a photo of the project before I placed the lettering on the finished collage.
Acrylic on24×30 stretched canvas. You will see layers upon layers of paint on this. / So much to say about this Siren, my homage to J.W.Waterhouse. This painting began as a personalchallenge. I had painted faces and such but never a sea-nymph. Will write more about the process of painting this soon. An artist friend said, some of the Masters, Maxfield Parish for example, used a heavy amount of varnish to create a depth of light and color to his paintings. So, I thought I would experiment with the high gloss medium. I used some interference blue paint that is gorgeous when the light hits it just so. / I like the result in this. Maybe if I took a HDR photo of this the viewer may see the color variation. The eye was a huge challange to paint Below, you will find a Waterhouse image is to illustrate the inspiration for this painting.
This is my first banner which was inspired by one of redbubble’s own,Diana-Lee Saville. She taught me how, in a simple fashion… DID I SAY SIMPLE. THERE IS A RELEVANCY IN THIS TOO. LIVE LIFE ACCORDINGLY. This expression is my favorite expression in the universe. I heard it on Bill Nye the Science Guy, a PBS show which aired when my children were little kittens… Bill was having an episode on the environment and how everything is connected. I love the expression, because its meaning is so beautifully versatile. I mean the expression points farther than an environmental notion. I like to link it to a community and social responsibility. some kind of nook on a cranny wall… Love to you
I wrote the poem and the image is a up close of a collage I did… This year our extended family decided to place names in a Santa Hat and draw names. I got my brother-in-law, Nick. It was suppose to be a “you made it” gift for less than ten dollars… so I decided to pull up something in my bag of files and lay some text to it… I think in some ways this poem I wrote and the image reflect a general mood for the year… The year is coming to a close soon, and I thought I would share this gift with my Redbubble Friends… I hope he will like it. And I hope you will too. /
