  • Treviso is an attractive town in the Veneto region of north-east Italy, with a population of around 80,000. Rebuilt and restored after Second World War bombing, the town centre is a rambling maze of streets lined with arcaded walkways. Looking up, you’ll see fragments of the painted frescoes which once decorated Treviso’s houses. The town is circled by a town wall and by waterways. • This is one of 2 pictures I am loading of the Grand Canal, I have a few more, but these where the 2 I been debating over for a while. I like them both for different reasons and could not decide which I preferred. This one I like for the subtle reflection and the light on the homes along the bank, and of course the Lone Gondolier. It was a day full of many seasons, the few days we were there at about 3.30pm the clouds got very dark and it poured like we were in the tropics. Only to clear up as fast as it came around 4pm, and then we could all venture out again. Venice is a magical place.

  • 2600+ views, 34 faves. This is one of my favourite shots taken on black and white film and taken in St Mark’s Square in Venice, Italy. I have scanned the print. I like the timelessness of this shot and the sense of innocence. She was surrounded by the pigeons at first and she didn’t mind. But later, one flew on her head and she minded a lot. I recently made a sale on redbubble with this shot. A matted print in Off White to Lucy, my sister-in-law, in the UK. Many thanks so much for purchasing this. This shot was featured in the Urban Art Group, the Other Side of Italy and the I love Italy Group.

Best Viewed Large One of the most striking aspects of Venice, Italy, apart from the glorious cathedrals, famous bridges and other magnificent and historic structures … are the intriguing dwellings lining the canals. The romance and mystery reach out and grab the imagination by the heart … some of us leave our hearts there … hoping someday to return!! Image taken in July of 2005 with the hand held Olympus C-5000 zoom point and shoot. Post processing included some Photoshop tinkering and a trip to Photomatix for hdr with a single image, eval +/- 2. I subsequently put the image into Corel Paint 11 for some brushstroke work on the flowers.

May 21, 2009. Best Viewed Full Size One of my favorite images from Venice … which reminds me of our gondola ride the evening before. Just the thought of it will always bring a smile. We left from the center of town with a group of about 20 other couples from the ship. As we pulled away, each couple with their own individual gondola, we overheard that another of the couples, lovely young newlyweds, had been given an accordion player and a singer for the evening as a wedding present. I remember trying not to roll my eyes. As we were rowed through the “streets” ... above … each of the gondoliers passed out bottles of Asti Spumanti and paper cups to their patrons. Soon the singer and the accordion player began to serenade the newlyweds, and the rest of us as well. And as the delicious fruit of the vines began to do its happy work, Venice opened her arms to us all. By the time we made it to the Grand Canal, we were all singing along at the tops of our voices. The gondoliers performed some magic with their magnificent, gleaming black boats, forming a fan shape and then a starburst with them all … one never touching the other. It must have been an extraordinary sight from the upper floors of the beautiful old dwellings lining the canal. I know it took our breath away!! A little Mario Lanza, anyone?? Enjoy and dream!! / O Sole Mio ... oh, sing along … you know you want to!!! Image taken with my little Olympus C-5000Z point and shoot. Post processing included hdr from a hand-held single image in Photomatix Pro, at +/- 2 1/2, Orton in Photoshop, and some touch up of the flowers in Corel Paint 11 with the Wacom Intuos 4 tablet.
