fORMaTiNG YOuR TeXt I havent been having too much fun gettin my text written in RB the way i am used to.. formatting that is.. ive had my text cancelled out like this when i put the ”-” symbol between letters – i try and remember not to do that again. Only just now i found another one.. So i thought to self, that i’d better write all these down here in the journal – for future reference : NEW PARAGRAPHS / Press ENTER twice and that will give you a new paragraph automatically. WHEN ON EACH END OF WORD/TEXT : / eg: * bold * (without spaces) symbol * = bolds / / symbol _ = italic symbol ^ = small upper / / symbol – = cancels you out! symbol ~ = makes text smaller / / symbol + = Underlines the text symbol * * * = makes a horizontal rule/line without the spaces / -found by KSERIPHYN_ TO MAKE TEXT CLICKABLE (INTO URL) Put quotation symbols ” ” on each side of the word/sentence you want to make into Links/Clickable and then a COLON (no spaces) straight after, plus the url ; http:// EXAMPLE (i’ve added spaces in between the symbols so that you can see the text – but NO SPACES ” This tip was found whilst reading PDUV’s journal ” : http://www.redbubble.com/people/pduv/journal/show/4812 becomes : This tip was found whilst reading PDUV’s journal TO ADD GRAPHICS INTO YOUR JOURNAL / PLEASE DON’T PUT HUGE PIX, RESIZE/UTILIZE PLACES LIKE IMAGESHACK free image hosting EXAMPLE : (i’ve added spaces in between the symbols so that you can see the text – but NO SPACES) ! http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/6817/formatingrbct6.gif ! becomes TIP : You can do save that gif cheat sheet if you want ;) ADDING GRAPHIC & MAKING IT CLICKABLE (LINKED) / for larger pics you want to show, its a good idea to post the Thumbnail size, / and making the graphic clickable to a larger size. To to that just add the :http://website.uwant.url right after the ending exclamation ! mark of the graphic link ! http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/6817/formatingrbct6.th.gif !:http://img216.imageshack.us/my.php?image=formatingrbct6.gif / becomes NEW! Adding an ALT equivalent to your image / so that when you hover mouse over the image you can read the title of image example (hover mouse over the button): / add the title of your image in a bracket, for example (IMAGE TITLE) in between the last letter of the image URL and the ending exclamation symbol. look at image below / HEADER TEXT (Large fonts) / add symbol # to each side of the word/sentence for header size font. / / but this seems to work only as header, meaning its gotta be the first sentence/text, like a header. i used it up to in the text that says “Formating Your Text” eg : # Is bigger better? # no spaces MAKING BULLET/LIST Make new/update CheatSheet soon done! New Cheatsheet added to bottom of this page and also in portfolio HERE symbol hAsh plus a space then text will make bullets / -found by KSERIPHYN_ / TEXT GENERATOR keong has found this link to TEXTISM a Text Generator that can help you further with formating style that RB uses. Oil on paper. This was a quick one to do, I was almost drawing it with oil and the white parts are the actual empty canvas paper. This way the painting is very luminous and there is a beauty in its very simple colour scheme. it is almost monochromatically blue except for the green and a bit of complementary pink at the bottom.
When my lovely wife gave me my first fountain pen I spent hours just enjoying the flow of ink, watching it slide from thick to thin. This piece is a composite of that first A3 page, featuring a fractal-like level of abstract detail. Enjoy.
This is the first piece I’ve ever uploaded, to Red Bubble or anywhere. You can view it here....
This is the first piece I’ve ever uploaded, to Red Bubble or anywhere. You can view it here. The description it has attached to it reads: “When my lovely wife gave me my first fountain pen I spent hours just enjoying the flow of ink, watching it slide from thick to thin. This piece is a composite of that first A3 page, featuring a fractal-like level of abstract detail. Enjoy.” There’s a little more to the story, if you’re interested. My fascination with fountain pens began with Neil Gaiman. I really like his writing and got into the habit of reading his blog. Along the way he mentioned how much he loved writing with his fountain pens and how they prevented him from endlessly editing his initial ideas (as opposed to a word processor). The seed of my fountain pen love was planted there. Then my wife bought me my italic pen. It’s a pen with a thin but wide nib, the kind of shape that created our current roman typefaces. I tried using it for normal writing but found I had to write pretty slow and large to be legible. However, the shapes I was creating were really interesting. If I drew in one direction the pen produced a thin line; drawing at 90 degrees to that thin line formed a thick line. It’s just so organic, so different to what I’d produce on my Mac. This piece began as a little doodle to get used to the pen on a pad of A3 I keep beside my Mac. At this time I was doing an awful lot of signage and that meant an awful lot of 300+ meg files with very slow progress bars. Letting the pen glide over the paper was the perfect time filler. Day by day, progress bar by progress bar, the sheet filled up. When it finally came to an end, I found myself just staring at the page. Having forgotten each of the individual marks I had made, it seemed everytime I looked at it, a new pattern revealed itself. Nice. From there it was a simple matter of scanning the art and applying some colour in Photoshop. Italic on Black is the beginning of my love affair with fountain pens and I’m thrilled to share it with you. Let me know what you think.

I have just updated my homepage to incorporate sets of images. To save retyping a lot of information for any more “how did you?” requests I have assembled the following “How I did” which covers basic formatting also. Hope someone finds this of some use Stuart
How stupid am I? Let’s choose a green colour and font size tiny to show off the text on the formatting help Hopefully this reads better and replaces the green text on page 2
