The third largest cathedral in the world, simply called “the Duomo”, this imposing structure of marble is one of the most flamboyant and grand piece of Gothic architecture in Italy. On the terrace, numerous turrets, spires, pinnacles, and statues weave a lacy extravaganza of marble. Though the climb of 919 steps to the terrace left me winded, it was well worth the climb to experience such a unique sight at the top. The Pantheon is the Roman monument with the greatest number of records: the best preserved, with the biggest brick dome in the history of architecture and is considered the forerunner of all modern places of worship. It is the most copied and imitated of all ancient works. / Michelangelo felt it was the work of angels, not men. / Where it stands was not chosen by chance, but is a legendary place in the city’s history. According to Roman legend, it is the place where the founder of Rome, Romulus, at his death was seized by an eagle and taken off into the skies with the Gods. Painting Riomaggiore, Cinque Terre October 2008 Featured in ‘I Love Italy’ This photo took almost 30 minutes to frame. It was a real mission to wait for all of the tourists to get out of shot. And then the artists would turn and watch me. Eventually it worked, and I think it was worth it.
Wonderful little city built on the rocks. Polignano a Mare is 35km far from Bari (Puglia, Italy). Domenico Modugno (author and singer of the famous song ♫ Volare ♫ ) was born in this little city and from 3 weeks there is also a monument in memory of him. ► Nikon 5700 ◄
