  • Located off the Mid North Coast of NSW Australia, it is the most distant from the coast and only one of two island lighthouses in NSW. The original buildings were built in 1880 and housed 2 families – 1 person died on the island. The lighthouse was automated in 1975. The keepers cottages have been abandoned since 1975. Access to the island is only by helicopter and restricted by National Parks & Wildlife. National Parks opened the building for public access for 1 weekend in August 2008 – 226 people were lucky enough to visit the island. In July 2009 there were 335 visitors! The buildings will be opened again in 2010- contact PrecisionHelicopters for further info Full history of the island – South Solitary Island Official Historic Destination

  • Summer gold iris glowing in the morning sun and water.

  • Bible pages curled into a heart shape. /

  • One of the most beautiful beach in Maui.

  • Cute gray graduate bunny wearing glasses and hat with tassel. isolated on white.

  • This orange Gerber daisy on an orange/white background reminds me of Halloween, pumpkins, football season and homecoming corsages, and the bright colors of fall foliage.

  • This past Saturday I ventured up to Guanella Pass and onwards to the Ghost Town of Como, a literal timewarp that harks back to the wildwest, fully intact and presevered, few folks still live here. It is high up, probably close to 10,000 feet, and this winter has been VERY bad in the high country. In fact just last week they interviewed a resident of Como and she talked about how the town was totally cut off of supplies…which made me right away think of the horses there. I have photographed these horses the last 5 years now, and I always find them so friendly…not your typical horses, these are true and tried working horses…where Cowboys still exist and the west stil lives. Upon entering Como, I was shocked at the snowbanks, over 20 feet high, and they were plowed out finally from a construction crew using Catepillars. And low and behold, so was the feeding field for the horses….... :) I was happy they were ok, as I was quite concerned, as they have become kind of a good friend to me and my camera. More on Como can be found here and here and it’s history as a Wild West town Thoughts welcomed, print to come! / —-John

  • taken at crater lake in oregon while the wind cleared away the snow storm

  • The doors on the left lead through into separate isolation wards, from this main ward i am stood in to shoot from, at this abandoned mental asylum. These must have been for relatively low security patients otherwise they would have been isolation rooms with much smaller windows, if any window at all.

  • Last drop of red.

  • Cascading orchid blossoms toward rippled water.

  • ....oh no not another shot from Saltburn Pier, sorry I couldn’t stop myself!

  • This daisy was placed face down on a lightbox and photgraphed. It looked to me as though it was painted by the camera!

  • This was taken on the same night as the triple rainbows, and was originally lost in the shuffle. Luckily, I rediscovered it. There were many little cottages or cabins like this scattered along the shoreline of Alaska’s Inside Passage, but like this one, most of them were somewhat isolated from the other cottages. The transport of choice to reach these cottages was mostl likely by boat.

  • Going past a farm near Beachport I went past this scene and had to hault the car at once, One of those immediate inspiration moments. It’s been over 9 months now since I have looked at it again and i think it deserves to be on here. I like it alot. Taken with my Nikon D80 at a 1/50 shutter speed.

  • Giving a whole new meaning to Honey Do

  • Photo reference From THE LITTLE GIRLS SERIES this beautiful little Indian girl seems shy, yet fierce.

  • Pink salt slick in the backwater area of the Noora Evaporation basin between Berri and Renmark South Australia. This area is severely degraded but is a significant distance from River Murray main and has been in this condition for years. It is a sorry sight to see and the area has a real feel of death and desolation. The storms clouds in the distance brought some much needed rain to the area during the night. Thanks to Dave Hartley for joining me on this excursion. Three shot panoramic using a Canon 400D, 17-85 lens with Polarising filter. Stitched in Photoshop CS3.

  • Welcome to my art, circa 2006. As you can tell, I’ve always been enamored with texture. These are textures overlayed onto my own photography of abandoned farmhouses in Waterville, Washington. This one is the second in a series of four. My sweet friend Wendy has always loved these, and so – I dedicate this long overdue posting of the work to her.
