Sauvie Island, situated ten miles north of Portland, Oregon, is an essential part of the wetland system along the Columbia River that’s used by thousands of migratory birds each year. While kayaking Sturgeon Lake, which occupies the center of the island, I observed Tree Swallows hunting the lake’s surface at dusk, their long, sweeping runs interrupted by abrupt rolls and dives as they chased their insect prey. Please help protect our rivers: All proceeds from the sale of this work will be donated to Oregon Trout, a statewide conservation group working to restore freshwater health and habitat through innovation and education. On our drive up to Polipoli this morning we stopped along the way to watch the paragliders, as I stepped out of our truck this vehicle was driving by with two adorable Shelties barking happily like small children thrilled to be outdoors on a beautiful rain soaked morning on Maui. I love the look of this candid shot, especially the brilliant blue sky and clouds reflected in the window. Framed Print The church of St. Therapon dominates the city of Mytilene owing to both its impressive mass but mainly to the originality of its architectural type. The erection of this monument commenced in the beginning of the 19th century by the flourishing at that time Christian quarter and was completed in 1935. The architect was Argyris Adalis, Ziller’s student. The architectural order follows the cross-in-square type; however, the monument constitutes a combination of elements from contemporary architectural trends that prevailed in the West (Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassicism etc). Gothic elements are prevalent as well, adding an impressiveness and a distinctive style to the monument. Sunrise 5 AM
