Sometimes you have to sacrifice to get an image. To do things you are routinely prepared to skip, do them on impulse, for the sake of curiosity or survival of your photographic essence, whichever comes first. For a change, wake up early, walk to an interesting destination, one with an aura of permanent popularity like a waterfall or beach, and infuse your artistic being with an extra dose of organic beauty. I reached the pristine flow and witnessed it right on time, tranquil and clear, painted by a mystifying glow, no sun or moon can claim. The sight was so surreal, the river itself had to stop and make a couple of circles before departing towards the sea. Scented green branches diluted their reflections in its placid water, the skeletons of fallen trees slowly morphed back into daylight shapes. The mist and part of the river that managed to take off as a vapor danced softly in mid air. I trapped a little playful bird with my eyes. / / A complete mental inventory for a fairy flavored daydream. Even if your digital masterpiece stays short of its cerebral counterpart, how can you fail to remember the sight that can suspend all of your uncertainties, the insanely lush hazy forest and its river that wears fallen leaves like jewelry. Well, is there a point in getting up early? If the just spoken plea is not enough I can give you a better reason. You should do it because you still can; a fact that may not be equally true tomorrow.

For Drawing Day. Medium: pens and oil pastel on a piece of paper in my sketchbook. I was inspired by the Japanese artist Hiroshi Senju, who tends to limit his colors in his paintings. Sometimes he paints an image where the background is the complimentary colors of the subject. His style is simple but at the same time intense, where the foreground stands out from the complimentary background. This drawing however is different from his style; I have done another painting before which is closer to his style: As for the form of the tree and island, my inspiration came from this: / More from Drawing Day: / This piece has been included among RB’s featured pages, and featured in the following group: Young Enthusiasts

“November comes / And November goes, / With the last red berries / And the first white snows. With night coming early, / And dawn coming late, / And ice in the bucket / And frost by the gate. The fires burn / And the kettles sing, / And earth sinks to rest / Until next spring.” / ~Clyde Watson Taken Tuesday Novl 11/08 at sunset over the Lake of Two Mountains in St-Eustache, Quebec CANADA
/ “The Basho Tree” is part of the new Collection called “Tropics”, and is named after the famed poet Basho.. / The Tropics collection of paintings are imbued with colour and light to reflect the intense heat of the climate... Watercolour on Arches Hot Pressed Paper.. Matsuo Kinsaku was a Japanese poet who changed his name to ‘Basho’, after he was presented with a wide leafed banana tree (or Basho tree) by one of his disciples. Although the tree is rare in Japan and the climate too cold for it to bear fruit, Basho liked it because of its large, soft leaves. The Basho tree appeared frequently in his work. The Big Island of Hawaii is larger than the other islands in the chain (about 4,000 square miles) with a resident population of only just over 200,000. There are vast open spaces that go on for mile after mile of magnificent landscape. From lush rainforest to desolate lava fields – from the cool mountain air of Waimea to the humid heat of the eastern “rainy side” of the island – there is always something new to discover! If you are up to it, you can even hike up to the top of Mauna Kea (dormant) volcano and join the astronomers at Keck Observatory watching the stars from an altitude of almost 14,000 ft. But, be prepared for very cold temperatures and even snow at certain times of the year! Or you can visit the Volcanoes National Park and watch the lava flow from Mauna Loa into the sea. To me this island is not only a photographer’s dream, but it is also a place where I can listen to the sounds of the earth, watch the stars, and learn about the deeply spiritual nature of it’s people. Taking a tour with a local guide through areas not open to the general public, I was humbled to listen to the depth of his knowledge of the island’s native plants and animals. We could all learn so much about respect for the natural resources of our planet from the Hawaiians.
Macro shot taken from the bark of a tree…...I loved the fresh smooth green bark contrasting with the old brown textured bark, gradually aging and falling away from the trunk of the tree.
