One of many frozen Willow trees lining the edge of Lake Wanaka, waiting for the dawn’s first light to warm them for a new day. At first I was disappointed not being able to see the lake and the mountains due to the heavy fog on the water. That soon changed!

Came across this field of Lupin’s a few years back growing in a field in New Zealand’s South Island. I love the colours and was like a ‘kid in a candy shop’ snapping images.

Sunrise at Kingscote Kangaroo Island, over jetty remains along the foreshore. Nature, the waves and weather slowly eroding the last reminders of days past. The site can be located opposite the Hospital heading towards Reeves Point at Kingscote. HDR using photomatix. Canon 400D with polarising filter.

I kept returning to this spot, night after night, sometimes it was raining or misty and other nights were simply ideal though a tad chilly … This spectacular natural rock arch, sculpted by weathering and erosion from the sea over thousands of years is well worth visiting. Here you can also observe a colony of New Zealand Fur-seals as they feed, swim and laze on the shore platform below. If you cannot see them you can sure smell them ! The Gentoo Penguin is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red list of Threatened Species Melting sea ice and overfishing have triggered a dangerously rapid decline in penguin populations on the Antarctic peninsula – a direct result of global warming, warns a new report from the WWF. Temperatures on the frozen continent are rising five times faster than the global average due to the unprecedented rate of climate change, pushing four species perilously close to extinction. Warmer temperatures are forcing penguins to raise their young on increasingly thinner and more precarious ice floes, while stronger winds mean many eggs and chicks are being blown away from their parents before they are able to survive on their own. The gentoo, chinstrap and adélie – along with the emperor, the largest penguin species in the world – are now struggling to survive as melting sea ice destroys nesting sites and reduces vital food sources, such as krill.
