  • Whilst competing in a Rogaine in SW Western Australia my mate and I stumbled upon a deserted farmhouse and out buildings. Because we were camping overnight in roughly the same area I managed to get back the next morning to get a few shots. I only hope I can find my way back there as there are lots of shots to be made.

  • Detail of a recreation of an Iron Age roundhouse at Flag Fen, Cambridgeshire, England. /   / One of our many steps on the climb up Mount Improbable. /   / Part of the series Against the Sky /   /

  • An abandoned Victorian Italianate style house (c.1880-90) in Annandale, an inner city suburb of Sydney. Sitting proudly in a corner position of this hip and happening suburb, it had once been loved and cared for – if you look closely, you can see that one of the previous owners, at some stage, installed an alarm – a measure sure to deter possible intruders. Today, some of the lacework is missing, the fence posts have deteriorated, the concrete probably has cancer, the garden is full of weeds, steps to the front door are missing…will nobody love it anymore?

  • An old piece of abandoned farm equipment sits in a field. No longer needed to bring in the harvest it now only watches over the fields. / / More in this series: / / / / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography

  • ...but still some life left in this old boat shed at Wineglass Bay Tasmania.

  • Just after finishing taking pictures of the Kina, I was stumbling back over the rocks and came across a bright Rusty piece of ….... well something! Sun was setting, bright amazing colours were being shone back at me and thought – yeah! personally I like this image for it’s pin sharp detail and the juxtaposition between the round bolt and the straight edge especially with the blues on top. it was probably a well rusted iron girder but bent and rusted beyond recognition by the sea and rocks…

  • On the grounds of the Oka monastery, in Oka Quebec, is a blacksmith shop. On Saturday December 6th/08 while attending a Christmas craft fair, held in one of the barns, the public was invited to witness the blacksmith at work. / These artisans still use the tools of their forefathers. Today they produce various iron decorative objects such as candelabras and coffee tables in their shop in addition to the traditional work associated with rural life such as gates, agricultural tools, and horsehoes. It was a fascinating experience watching this young man demonstrate the skills needed for this ancient trade. Photoshop Elements used: Unsharp Mask

  • Having an overwhelming interest in customised transport, I created this piece as a self-caricature (and homage to Mad Max Thunderdome) during the recent upsurge in petrol prices- when it reaches $3 per litre, this is what I’ll look like! I drew the original piece with Indian ink and a brush, and then scanned it into Photoshop where I layered paint and textures over the original linework.

  • Does what it says on the tin. The Photo-Inversion Flower grows nowhere on Earth. / But you never know. / Its translucent petals show anything behind it in negative. Possible causes for this are the presence of cyanoethyl cobaloxime complexes in the petals but sadly none have ever been recovered for study due to the very probable non-existence of it. / It is also commonly known as the Catarli flower, this is thought to be a reference to Ctrl + i* It is pictured here on a wrought-iron gate (actually stainless steel) to show the effect, the design of which is mostly geometric and has a solid plate welded in behind the lightbulb which is a symbol for thought. The whole thing took about two weeks and I spent the first measuring out the gate and pillars meticulously. Then I put in the lightbulb and the flower. I spent as long rubbing stuff out as I did laying stuff down and left the patina on the lower end of the gate, that’s at least how dark the page would be if I hadn’t erased everything in the gaps around the different elements as I went along. / If anyone actually wants a copy let me know and I’ll go get it scanned properly. I only uploaded a small one here as the transfer was going so slowly at full size. / If anybody’s curious to know what’s beyond the gate the answer is a page Pencil on A3 and PS / Original for sale Add *theyellowfury to your watchlist Copyright © 2008 Simon Deevy.
