  • ‘Thunderbird’ is from a petroglyph in Iowa depicting the supernatural being know to many tribes. Some believed him to cause thunderstorms, and for some he was a guardian spirit. Thunderbird is also known as the Sacred Bearer of Happiness. I am making a sincere effort to present these designs as they originally appeared, with a wee bit of stylizing on my part. This series of tees is intended to honor the ancient ones and the art they left behind for us.

  • I am happy with this shot but It isn’t quite what I was after. I thought it would be cool to get a shot of a power plant with lightning above it. I went down I-29 south of Counsil Bluffs and pulled of on a side road near the power plants. What I didn’t realize was the corn was six feet tall and completely blocking my view of the power plant!!! I should have known, growing up in Nebraska, but I thought I was just much shorter when I lived here before. Any way I put my tri-pod on the roof of my jeep and climbed up. I had a great view of the plant and the sky but very quickly realized I didn’t want to die trying to get this shot. I got down pretty quick and set up on the road. The Interstate was just far enough away to lite up the corn. The power plant made a nice glow under the clouds. So, as it often is, after all my plains went to to crap, I got a lucky and ended up with this.

  • This is made especially for our Hospice of Iowa nurses and staff who cared for us. Jodi and Michelle walked beside us on my grandma’s journey from life, to death, and back to life again as she left this world and entered heaven. Jodi cared for my grandma and us each time she walked into my grandmother’s house. She showed her love when she checked my grandmother’s blood pressure, oxygen level and much more. She cared emotionally for grandma when she listened to all her stories and concerns before she died. The only time I wasn’t present, my grandmother shared things with Jodi she must have needed to say without family there. Michelle told me when we were sitting by my grandma’s bedside, that she loves what she does because it is the most important moment of people’s lives; when they leave this life and go on to the next. She was literally my life saver when she arrived on her white horse after hours, to assure me my grandmother was not suffering and what she was experiencing was normal for the last hours of life. I was terrified because after Jodi left I was dispensing her medication, primarily morphine. All of a sudden I was in a nursing role with no nurses training. I had never been with someone in death so even though the book tells you what to expect, you really don’t understand until you experience it. I now know why I did not become a nurse. I would be horrible at it. My bedside manner would be great, but you wouldn’t want me giving you meds, believe me. I was a wreck. I also want to mention Lisa who was the first to meet us and make us feel comfortable and the social worker. She came once and was so grateful to get to meet grandma because she had heard so much about this tough, hardy 96 year old woman. Grandma was evidently known as “the woman everyone wanted to meet.” Other nurses were wanting to stop by just so they could meet her. They were all wonderful. I have always heard incredible things about Hospice people and now I know it is all true! So thank you Hospice of Iowa for making our last days with my grandma as comfortable and powerful as possible. Heaven Bound with message /
