Hi Everyone! Hope you’re all having a great weekend so far. I just found out a few days ago that an animated film MrThomas and I created for the 15/15 Film Festival has been nominated for Best Animation. We’re very happy about it! The 15/15 Film Festival is a competition to make a film in 15 hours using their quote and an object that they tell us on the filming day. Then we run off and make it! MrThomas was the Director, compositor and editor and I did the animation and character designs. Our film is called “Chikky the Wonder Bird” and will be screening on May 26 at RMIT Capitol Theatre, 113 Swanston Street, Melbourne. It starts at 7pm. It’s the gala night and we’re hoping to win but it’s very cool to be nominated anyway!!! Please click 15/15 to know more about 15/15 but I dont think everything is there yet. Thomas and I will be there so it would be great to see some Red Bubble folks there too! I hear there’s free cheap liquor afterwards. :) Have fun during the weekend everyone!

I’m honoured to announce Professional Freelance Photographer Mark Ingram from Cobar, New South Wales, Australia has invited me to supply images to his ever growing stock library of images at Mark Ingram Photography . Mark and I recently met for the first time in his home town of Cobar whilst I was travelling in New South Wales, Australia. Our friendship has developed over the last 18 months as a result of our participation at photography web sites and our common Freelance Photography learning with the well regarded Thomson Education Direct. Mark has established a substantial library of quality stock images which are readily available for purchase under licence via his web site. Wedding photography, family portraits, stock photography sales and print sales provide a steady income for Mark. His ability to tailor wedding packages to his local market has lead to him becoming firmly established and in demand. I’d like to publicly extend my gratitude to Mark for his invitation to become part of the stock library at Mark Ingram Photography .

I absolutely had to share this email with everyone around here…. For your enjoyment! Washington Post’s Mensa Invitational A clever play on words in case you missed it. Here is the Washington Post’s Mensa Invitational which, once again, asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition. The winners are: 1. Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period of time. / 2. Ignoranus: A person who’s both stupid and an arsehole. / 3. Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with. / 4. Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly. / 5. Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future. / 6. Foreploy: Any misrepresentation about yourself for the purpose of getting lucky. / 7. Giraffiti: Vandalism spray-painted very, very high. / 8. Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn’t get it. / 9. Inoculatte: To take coffee intravenously when you are running late. / 10. Hipatitis: Terminal coolness. / 11. Osteopornosis: A degenerate disease. (This one got extra credit.) / 12. Karmageddon: It’s when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, and then the Earth explodes, and it’s a serious bummer. / 13. Decafalon (n.): The gruelling event of getting through the day consuming only things that are good for you. / 14. Glibido: All talk and no action. / 15. Dopeler effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly. / 16. Arachnoleptic fit (n.): The frantic dance performed just after you’ve accidentally walked through a spider web. / 17. Beelzebug (n.): Satan in the form of a mosquito, that gets into your bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out. / 18. Caterpallor (n.): The colour you turn after finding half a worm in the fruit you’re eating. / / The Washington Post has also published the winning submissions to its yearly contest, in which readers are asked to supply alternate meanings for common words. And the winners are: 1. coffee (n.): the person upon whom one coughs. / 2. flabbergasted (adj.): appalled by discovering how much weight one has gained. / 3. abdicate (v.): to give up all hope of ever having a flat stomach. / 4. esplanade (v.): to attempt an explanation while drunk. / 5. willy-nilly (adj.): impotent. / 6. negligent (adj.): absentmindedly answering the door when wearing only a nightgown. / 7. lymph (v.): to walk with a lisp. / 8. gargoyle (n.): olive-flavoured mouthwash. / 9. flatulence (n.): emergency vehicle that picks up someone who has been run over by a steamroller. / 10. balderdash (n.): a rapidly receding hairline. / 11. testicle (n.): a humorous question on an exam. / 12. rectitude (n.): the formal, dignified bearing adopted by proctologists. / 13. pokemon (n.): a Rastafarian proctologist. / 14. oyster (n.): a person who sprinkles his conversation with Yiddishisms. / 15. Frisbeetarianism (n.): the belief that, after death, the soul flies up onto the roof and gets stuck there. / 16. circumvent (n.): an opening in the front of boxer shorts worn by Jewish men. So good!

Okay, gobsmacked or not but RSPCA Perth has invited to present one of my works in their gallery, up for auction on the Friday 9th May from 5-7pm WST in at Northbridge…..yes gobsmacked. As part of my charitable contribution to the homeless of Perth, and to say thanks to the RSPCA team for allowing me to do this, I have decided to donate 50% of my profits sold on the canvas. You’re probably wondering which composition was it? / Two Become One – by Keegan Wong. I just bought a $126 443mmx406mm Canvas Print from RedBubble. Will post it on the buyers booth once I get it (express delivery takes 1 second, but PayPal clearance takes the other 1000 years sigh). Special thanks to Erika Natta for this exclusive yet charitable invite. I am glad to help out Erika :) Kudos to you. http://www.redbubble.com/people/erikanatta UPDATE! : RSPCA hosted by Erika Natta was a success, although my piece was not sold. I had received PLENTY of positive feedback about my work, which made every cent worth it. Plus, I get to keep my very first canvas print! =D Love, / Keegan

After much anticipation, anxiety, and late nights preparing and re-post-producing, it is finally upon me…the opening night of my first exhibition of works in a smaller group show, at Brunswick Street Gallery, this Friday 9th May. This is an official invitation to the opening of Photography08, to all bubblers and bubblettes who have come across my work and decided to hit the ‘add Mark Hayward to your watchlist’ button…Cheers! Would be awesome to meet some of you guys in the flesh over a wine (or three…I’m gonna need it!) Opening Night / Friday May 9 / 6pm / Brunswick Street Gallery / 322 Brunswick Street / Fitzroy 3065 / (opposite Bar Open) Brunswick Street Gallery Mark Hayward / TRANSITIONS Transition; the process of change from one form, state, style or place, to another I am interested in looking at, taking and creating photographic images that are considered in design, as well as a way to illustrate ideas. The images in this series of work explore various notions of Transition. Literally, they are still-frame records of movement; moments in time in the travel and transit, of people, places, objects, seasons and scenes, from one place to another. Metaphorically, they serve as vehicle’s to tell various stories of human experience; the movement from childhood to adolescence, the celebration of summer and of youth, the isolation and reflection of the lone traveler, the transition and change from ‘here’ to ‘there’ in culture, lifestyles and environment I see in the post-modern world, and in particular, how we interact with and become part of the ever changing visual landscape, as we move through it. Mark Hayward studied graphic design, majoring in illustration in his final year at Monash University in 1997, and has worked as a graphic designer since 1998. From 2000 to 2007 he worked as a designer at the Federal banknote production facility at Note Printing Australia, producing banknote and passport designs for national and international clients, most notably having recently designed and produced the upcoming new Australian Passport. His present interest in purely photographic work, developed from his use of photo-based imagery in his graphic design, fuelled and inspired by work and personal travels throughout Europe, Asia and Australia over the last five years. To date Mark has participated in a number of group open-entry shows and competitions – / 2004 – Centre for Contemporary Photography Nikon Summer Salon (Award for Best Digital Photo-Media -‘Vanishing Point’ 1-4, 2004, quadtych, Digital Print) / 2006 – Linden Gallery Postcard Show (‘The Disappearing’, 2006 and ‘Naxos Structure’, 2005) / 2007 – Linden Gallery Postcard Show (Postcard Finalist Winner – ‘Geneva Lake Divers’, 2006, Inkjet Print) / 2008 – RedBubble.com ‘In the Moment’ Magazine Competition (Overall Visual Art Winner, ‘Geneva Lake Divers’) Published, Feb, 2008

First of all, thanks to everyone that will take the time to read this ! I sincerely appreciate it very much ! Yesterday, I was invited to join the group International Photographers Alliance. I accepted and viewed this as a very nice accomplishment . I want my work to continue to get out there and am doing all that I know to do to keep on moving forward in my photography / art career. As most of you know, I am the host for Live, Love, Dream…..... It was a group that I started in hopes of touching as many people as I could through out the world by giving them a chance to be themselves, showcase their artistic abilities and truly soar in the passion that they have for art ! Well, it has come to my attention today that many people are not very supportive of invite only groups. I truly had no idea that this was an issue on RB. The people that truly know me online know that I love all People, I wish complete success to each and everyone of you , and I WOULD NEVER THINK I AM BETTER THAN ANY ONE PERSON OUT HERE ! Actually, I KNOW IM NOT ! LOL I have a long ways to go although I am continueing to climb daily ! :) The reason I am writing this, Is that I would like to get as many opinions as possible on what your views are on being in a group that is by invite only…....... PLEASE NO DRAMA ! I dont like drama ! LOL I would just like sincere answers. I would just like to know the majority feel on this subject ! Again, thank you to everyone that comments. I just wanna see each and everyone of you soar in your chosen fields! Hugs to one and all and hope you have a beautiful weekend !!!!!!!!! With Love, / Bonita

Hi, everyone. / Been away a few days from Redbubble trying to create a video compilation of some of the images I created during the second semester of 2008. This was just for fun; in order to share it with family and friends. But I do wanted to somehow share with you the process of creating some of these images; that´s to say, from an original cinema4D render through different postwork stages until the final results. / I also created the music for this video; no big deal, I know, but it was part of the fun too. / You´re all invited to see it at: / 2008 compilation / Have fun too, and Merry Christmas to all of you!!!! / Danilo

Hi I want to let you all know that you are invited to a free event at the Sydney Opera House on Thursday evening. The Australian arts community will be gathering there to celebrate the life of the extraordinary and brilliant poet Dorothy Porter (my cousin), a prodigious and internationally acclaimed Australian poet who died from complictions from breast cancer last week (aged 54). Dorothy lived her life as a poet and this was her life. An extraordinay feat – she breathed poetry and achieved outrageous success. Archival footage will be shown of her passionate performances. This will include live performances of her poems which were set to music by Paul Grabowski and recorded by Katie Noonan. The writer David Malouf will also speak. Dorothy may be best remembered for her verse novel The Monkey’s Mask which was also made into a film. I have attached a link for your information here / which my brother in Japan created. And a poem I wrote for her here The Sydney Opera House tribute is open to the public and will be in the northern foyer of the Concert Hall at 6 pm. I wanted to let any writers / poets here who know of her work that they are welcome to attend. Dorothy’s funeral was in Melbourne on Sunday which I attended. Tim Finn sang two songs which Dorothy wrote the lyrics for. They had just completed writing the lyrics for Tim Finn’s rock opera ‘January’. Oh my valley of Briny vision / Take me in your salty arms / Let my own soul’s tide / rise and flood / And rejoice. No angel is ever / Unadorned / To go before / (Her) maker. (from Johnathan Mills short opera ‘The Eternity Man’ for which Dorothy wrote the libretto) The ABC will show a tribute to Dorothy on Dec 22nd, and also show ‘The Eternity Man’ on Jan 9, 2009. See any Sydney people on Thursday :) Thanks / Robert xx

In order to make the gathering of photos and compiling of the Urban Wildlife Book easier, I thought it might be good if I could find some suitable photo file sharing software. I have found something that gives us privacy and can handle large files. This is less cumbersome than sending stuff by email, where your file size might be restricted, and has the advantage of putting everything automatically in one place, making the management of hopefully many photos, a lot easier. / / It is called Memeo Share, runs on your desktop, and will enable us to create a ‘pool’. One advantage for you is that all those partaking can see what is going on at any time, and you can also view pictures as big as your monitor will allow. The key points I was looking for were: 1. Non restrictive, must be able to handle large files. / 2. Must be private. / 3. Must allow downloading of large image files. / 4. Must allow reasonable storage per user. Memeo Share seems to fit the bill. It is easy to use, allows every user 1GB of FREE storage and it can run on your desktop. I have created a private group within the software called “Urban Wildlife Book” and the easiest way to get into it, as it is by invitation only, is to just send me an email request for an invite. I have even written one out for you! Just copy and paste the message below in an email, and send it to pix@johnhootonphotography.com Hi John, / Please send me an invite for the free Urban Wildlife Book Sharing Circle software, so that I may more easily take part in our exciting project. You will then receive a Memeo Share invite email from me which will have a link, taking you to a page where you can download the software and be part of our Exclusive Sharing Circle. I really would like as many people in our group as possible to take an active part in this project. I really think it is going to be very exciting and at the end of it, we are going to have a world class book of superb photographs. Even if you don’t think you have any pictures yourself, submit them anyway, and take part by inviting others who may have some pictures you admire, and would like to see in the book. Spread the word! I will probably create a space somewhere in our Urban Wildlife Forum soon where I can publish all ongoing news and where you can comment and discuss the project. We can then keep all the written discussion in one place instead of scattered articles in my RB Journal. I will look forward to seeing some Urban Wildlife Book Sharing Circle invite requests in my pix@johnhootonphotography.com inbox soon! Kind regards, John
