The skies over Inverness Beach are always so dramatic…... especially in bad weather. Inverness, Nova Scotia Canada on Cape Breton Island
Sometimes we don’t take the time or energy to notice the beauty around us. Taken on Inverness Beach on Cape Breton. Stormy sky, stiff cold wind blowing off the water, and a muted sunset. I think well worth the freezing hands and salt spray on my camera. My escape from the everyday crazy world.
Taken looking across the river at Inverness city centre. It was that moment seconds before the sun dipped below the clouds and I had to double park the car to capture it. This photo is 2 stitched together and I think I’ve been quite lucky in getting the 4 churches almost evenly spaced out. Slight work in photoimpact to add more detail to the sky. Rainbow an added bonus? Would look great with it’s sister shot shown below.

This is the site of the last battle on british soil in 1746. The monument is a memorial to all the clan members who died fighting for Bonnie Prince Charlie.

25 seconds at f5 and 40mm. used 3 filters two nd grads one placed upside down to make the two act as one nd filter. Then I added another nd to lengthen exposure time and get the light tails. The taxi played the part by not moving for the entire shot. /

Ben Wyvis catches the last of the sun. At (1046 metres/ 3432 feet) it is a big hump of a mountain about 20 miles north of Inverness and easily visible from the centre of town and all around. It’s usually snow capped from November to April although less so now than it was 20 years ago. / /
In July 1724 General George Wade (1673-1748) was sent to Scotland on a military mission for George I. In the continuing uncertainty after the 1689 and 1715 Jacobite Risings, he was to ‘inspect the present situation of the Highlanders’ and to ‘make strict inquiry into the last law for disarming the Highlanders’. He identified that the Highlands were ready to rise up and was appointed commander in Chief of the North of Scotland. He build roads so that he could move his troops quickly and put down rebellions. One of these roads runs along the south side of Loch Ness. This was Fraser country and they fought on both sides in the Battle of Culloden that was to take place in a few years after Wades work was complete. They fought on both sides so that they were on the winning side and would keep their land and title. Unfortunately Lord Lovat who chose the losing side was beheaded in the Tower of London and a memorial to him can be found in Boleskine Gravyard on the South side of Loch ness. The south side of Loch Ness is not the main road to Inverness from Fort William but it is the most beautiful. Even quicker because there is less traffic and more opportunities to overtake. You also get a better view of loch ness from this road.
