  • La Rue Obscure is the oldest street in the old town of Villefranche sur Mer on the French Riviera, between Nice and Monaco. It was built on virgin soil at the beginning of the 13th century. La Rue Obscure formed the basis of the rest of the town’s construction on the slopes rising from this coastal lane. It gave inhabitants of the town certain refuge against possible attacks. The ship captains who were forced by storms to anchor in the bay, could make necessary repairs in safety. La Rue Obscure also welcomed precious merchandise, such as wine, in its cellars.

  • We are all close, yet so far apart.

  • “Love is not a feeling, it’s an ability.” I heard that line in an excellent movie I saw today called DAN IN REAL LIFE (2007).

  • Mixed media – archival black ink, acrylic, collage – paper painted, mono & screen-printed, drawing, photo; screen-printed cotton fabric, carpet material; on canvas. Work exhibited in the Visual Arts Association Group Exhibition ‘Four Seasons’, held Cairns Regional Gallery, Qld. / Theme – ‘The Four Seasons’ by Vivaldi Background: I had working individually on art compositions relative to my passion to interpret music, rhythm/movement and energy through the use of formal visual art elements ie. line, colour, tone, shape, texture and art media. The interpretation requires one’s senses to hear and feel, absorb sound and energies, to internalize and contemplate, as apposed to recording information seen/perceived through the eyes from the physical ‘outer’ world. One has to create and interpret a visionary abstract, from a pure transitional and spiritual sensual state, from one’s own internal environment, of knowledge, understanding and experience. I jumped at the chance when this exhibition theme came up. Also I am much inspired by Kandinsky and his work, a long time favourite art philosopher and mentor. ....................................... /

  • Watercolour on Bockingford watercolour paper As we are stuck in the depths of winter down here in New Zealand, I thought it might be good to choose something to paint that’s funny, to lift the spirit. So I have come up with a painting called ‘Playing Footsie’. Have you ever played it? It is an intimate game, basically a way of flirting silently without other people noticing (like an inside joke, but better). Be warned, it is best played with someone you really like and likes you back. Be gentle and don’t kick the other person by accident or it could have the reverse effect I thought it was time to try out some watercolour pencils I had bought last month. They were secondhand (unused) bought from a auction site. They are Faber Castell Albrecht Durer, a tin of 12. I used Bockingford watercolour paper for this painting.

  • / Please view large. / © 2009 Danilo Lejardi / Just ordinary life, at one of those intimate situations we have to face _ or will have to _ at some time. It is the moment before contact is established, or perhaps re-established…. / Although I had a particular experience in mind, I suspect it could describe other circumstances and feelings. I’m not trying to get you to guess what I experienced, but rather to explore the range of situations and emotions this image can apply to. So, can you imagine a real life situation like the one I depicted or the associated emotions?
