this gang of Adelie penguins gave me a great opportunity for quite a series of entertaining photographs as they zoomed busily about their icy playground. This photo has become a symbol of connection and friendship among my own personal group of nearest and dearest friends.

Weary Ant has gone to bed, and Grasshopper plays for the moon. / ... / Inspired by Aesop’s fable about the Ant and the Grasshopper, although I prefer the happy ending where Ant shares his food with Grasshopper, and Grasshopper plays for the ant colony every night in return.

A horseman riding through the siq toward the imposing Treasury in the Nabatean ruins of Petra in Jordan. / A classic and timeless location but made unique by the appearance of the horseman in the shaft of light. (These guys ferry tourists who don’t want to walk through the siq) / The lost city was rediscovered in the mid 1800’s. / I only spent a couple of days here but the enormity of the location is astounding. There is so much archeological work to be done here – and so much still to be found – it will be a never ending quest.

Today we released our first new site-wide challenge The City. This is the latest RedBubble publication where we aim to showcase the best visual and written work on the Web. A TShirt Competition is also on the way. “The City” is open to all works that explore the complex, vibrant world of concrete, glass and humanity that are urban environments all over the world. The best works will be selected for publication in “The City” to come out in November and available for sale through RedBubble. We publish these books regularly as a way for the RedBubble community to showcase their work in a professionally presented and designed book working with a copy editor. It’s one way RedBubble provides opportunities for professional development for its members. Visual works are entered directly into this challenge. from works in your portfolio and then voted on. The top works will be selected for publication. To enter written works go the group RedBubble The City and follow directions. Written works will be shortlisted and voted on by a group of judges. The top written and visual work will receive $US 250 in cash each and a $US 250 RedBubble voucher. Each of the published works will receive a $US 40 voucher to purchase work on RedBubble. We will be increasing the frequency of publication to be able to showcase more of the work on RedBubble and to cover more themes. So expect an announcement soon about what the next publication will be. We are aiming to make the publications, collectible (but affordable) which will mean relatively limited editions and consistent formatting. “Compassion” the most recent publication will be out soon.

The Bub is shaking off its digital dust and getting physical. We are launching the publication – ‘In the Moment’ – next February. List your work for publication by joining the group In the Moment. There is prize pool of over (USD) $10,000 up for grabs. The publication will be gorgeously stunning (promise). We intend it to be the first in a series of unique publications. Artists, photographers, writers and poets can enter their works based on their interpretation of ‘In the Moment’. Images and written works will be ranked by RedBubble members and Paul and Martin will determine the shortlist. / / All published works will receive $US100 voucher with five category winners receive $US200. The overall winner of the writing competition will receive a coveted first edition of poetry by Sylvia Plath – The Collussus. The visual image winner will receive an 1802 translated edition of Leonardo Da Vinci’s A Treatise on Painting. The judges will be looking for quality work that illuminates the ‘In the Moment’ theme. All winners will feature in a special, limited edition RedBubble journal with only 1,000 copies to be printed and made available. If you have always dreamed of featuring your work in an exclusive creative journal, now is the time to submit your favorite work or create a new one. There is much talk these days about the effects of global warming,pollution,war, poverty,famine,etc,all the things we are doing to get rid of ourselves. / But out beyond our solar system,astroids,comets,planets, and just plain rocks / traveling between the stars which are much bigger threats. / And there is nothing we can do about them,we just hope nothing hits us. Thoughts of this prompted this image.And the doom & gloom that goes with it. It seemed only a moment since we were watching the glorious tropical sunset.The sun sank beneath the horizon,it was night and before us was the moment of truth. / A fireball of immense proportions had been waiting in space,a new sun was rising,but this one would never set,and even if it did,we will never see it. / So we just wait our doom,take pictures no one will ever see,nowhere to run,nowhere to hide,maybe make peace with our gods. In the moment …............is now.
