An almost macro photo of a tennis court fence in black and white. I’ve had people comment that this image looks more computer generated than a photo.

FOR NOT INTERESTING PEOPLE
Gather what you will from this.. but yes, I did intend for this to look like magical sperm. Haha, it just sort of happened when I was staring at a light bulb and noticed the little spring inside… so I knew I had to do something with that. :D
My dog, Griffin – looking up into the sky as snow falls on him. I peeked out the second story window to take the picture.
My best friend Missy was the mouth model. This is not a photomanipulation, it’s a real strawberry.

Well the 100,000 masterpieces celebration ended a couple of days ago – and it was quite popular! Here’s a graph of the daily sales on RedBubble since we launched in Feb 07: The first big spike was Christmas last year … and the recent spike was last week. Congratulations to the 2239 folks who received a sales notification last week. Another stat I was surprised to learn recently is that 74% of members who have made a purchase on RedBubble aren’t active uploaders … it seems there is a large number of ‘fans’ active on RedBubble who just browse, comment and buy. In fact I think that only about a fifth of the members on RedBubble are trying to sell their work … so last week over 10% of the people who are trying to sell on RedBubble made one or more sales. I also found it interesting to learn that most people (64%) who make a purchase on RedBubble make their purchase on the first or second visit to the site. There’s a couple of reasons for this. RedBubble itself generates between 30% and 40% of all sales on the site through our search engine work – i.e. a potential buyer types something into Google, they find something that matches their search interest on RedBubble and buy it straight away. The second part of the explanation is that Bubblers direct their potential customers to the site … and these people come to the site in ‘buy mode’ and transact pretty much straight away. And while I’m talking about the power of the search engines, they can generate opportunities in few different ways. Judith Oppenheimer has recently licenced one of her images to an agency after they found it on RedBubble. Congratulations Judith! You can read about that here. Well that’s about it for today … oh but before I forget, you remember the incredibly cool t-shirt comp we launched last week? Well due to popular demand we’ve extended the date for entries by a few days. So you’ve no excuse to not get involved and hopefully end up with your design hanging in streetwear store Demo, in London. So get scribbling. Ciao, - Peter
I was listening to Moby and before I knew it this simple cactus shot turned into this… I think Moby was affecting my brain, haha. So enjoy my insanity!

An experiment with water droplets, glitter, a CD, wrapping paper and light. I had some metallic paper reflecting in the CD and the flash from my camera made it very interesting with all the glitter. This is the kind of thing I do when it’s too cold to go outside…. haha. Enjoy!

There are so many tips’n’tricks, tutorials, enhancements and various other interesting articles listed around Redbubble. I’ve decided it is time to revitalise the articles I have written. / Why? Because so many writers are long-winded, overly-descriptive and their instructions are near impossible to navigate. I believe my documents cover the many issues necessary to run a successful redbubble gallery, allowing artists to successfully present their portfolio to all clientele. There is a whole lot of media out their wanting fat juicy stories to fill pages, air time and pixels. You probably don’t realize how interesting you really are. This little challenge is designed to get you thinking about ways to turn your story into some free publicity and media love. 1. Write a press or media release about yourself and your art. / 2. Upload it as a journal on RedBubble and tag it with press release / 3. Win cool business cards with your artwork on them (or at least some experience promoting yourself) “But I don’t know how to write a press release” $20 says all the artists who do know how to write press releases had to learn at some point. It’s not brain surgery, but it is a fine art. Which means us creative people have a built in advantage. Here’s some info to help you get started: How to write a media release / How to write a press release that works / How to structure a press release If you’re really stuck, try asking a few people what makes you stand out? How they would describe you to someone else? What is the most unusual thing they can remember about you? And what’s all this about winning business cards? That’s the bit where I say “top job” to one of the best press/media releases uploaded and buy that person some cool business cards. This doesn’t begin to compare with the thrill of seeing your story in print, but they will be handy when you’re rich and famous. I’ll also be consulting with some PR minded folk to get some more opinions on the entries. So you don’t have to take my word for it. And while only one person wins the business cards I will be keeping an interested eye out for stories really worthy of some media spotlight. Then I’ll lather you with love and support and a good kick until you give it a go for real. Winner: David Petranker for this little number
Dear Peter … Josie and I just returned from Central America a few days ago … you remember .. I told you about the trip a few months ago (smile) ... Well … (grin) ... we were extremely lucky to catch a glimpse of the newest variation of the Quetzal bird … Spendorus Resplendent … only seen once before by the noted orthinologist, Roger M. Milhouse, PhD, on his last trip to the region back in 2001. You remember him don’t you? ... the bird guy from back in our university days? LOL … I know you couldn’t have forgotten him (grin) ... well … You can imagine our excitement yet we were able to quickly get his photo. No not Roger’s photo (grin) ... Do check the attachment (smile) After we returned I sent a copy to Roger who immediately emailed back that it was indeed the bird that he had seen. I plan to meet with him in a few months to tentatively plan a trip back to the area where we sited the bird. I’m so excited I can hardly wait. Would you be interested in joining me when I meet with Roger? .. Josie is tied up with another project and won’t have time to help me out on this one. I know how interested you are in the wildlife of Central America so … get back to me as soon as you can … if you’re really interested I’d love to have you join us (big smile) Cassie for more information see The Resplendent Quetzal Featured Art – October 2009 – RedBubble Group: ImageWriting Work done in Apophysis with post work in Gimp. / Best viewed large.
