In the mood.
i’ve never told a lie; and that makes me a liar. / i’ve never made a bet; yet i gamble my desires. / i never lit a match with intent to start a fire; / but recently these flames are getting out of control. -alltimelow
This is one of three paintings I did for my first “Time-Lapse Painting Videos”. You can view them on My YouTube Channel. Like most of my paintings I’ve put up here so far, it was done with a meditation/intention process I’ve been cultivating with my friend and bodyworker. It started as a way to approach loosening up my artmaking process. Our idea has been to simply to have the intention of making art, the “doing”, and to try and let go of the pressure to create something of importance and to forget about the outcome and enjoy the process of creation. To see all of the sessions I’ve done with this certain process, you can visit my Art Blog

My idea when I started this painting was how I’m trying to complete the circles I start in my life. Everything from calling someone I need to call, getting my artwork in different galleries, spiritual & psychological changes/cycles, achieving goals, and many other projects that get started and not completed. So I was making this as a call to myself to try and complete the circles in my life I’m still aware of. This is part of a series of paintings I’ve been doing for a few months. The process originated with my body worker Golden Flux. We started the process with the intention of loosening up my creative process and freeing up my approach to art making. Over the course of 3 months, the images have varied greatly, and my approach to making art has re-established a sense of playfullness that I’ve been missing for some time. Our idea has been to simply to have the intention of making art, the “doing”, and to try and let go of the pressure to create something of importance and to forget about the outcome and enjoy the process of creation. Although I will probably continue to make paintings that I spend several hours on, I am glad that I’ve been able to get to a space where I can work on something and capture the initial process and be done with it. There is a lightness to these that some of my paintings I spend so long on tend to lose. To see all of the sessions I’ve done with this certain process, you can visit my Art Blog

I wrote this for my English class as well. I actually submitted it late, (eeek) so it was even more appropriate because of the title and meaning.
A comment on a personal state of mind in reaction to some rediscovered work from 2000. You can read more about it on my blog: http://ballygarrettartstudio.blogspot.com/2009/10/astonished-me-yes-astonished.html In a nutshell: / I discovered some old work that still had deep emotional roots for me. I found that I needed a witness to this personal work. The wave represents the ebb and flow of this desire and is also a comment of the driving force behind my intentions for this small body of work.
“Spirit Fire” is the energy I feel when I connect with my spirit. I’d like to say this is a continual sensation, but I feel I’m always cultivating a better relationship with my spirit. When I was a child I felt more continually connected to my spirit. When I let my mind calm down I can connect with my spirit. Most times when I make music or art, I connect with my spirit. The “Spirit Fire” is that feeling that comes over me when I know I am connected to my spirit and am able to see clearly my path. This is one of three paintings I made in the same session. I’ve been wanting to make some paintings where the main imagery is black, with bright colors underneath. I wanted to take the type of imagery I make when I doodle and keep that simplicity of form in a painting. So these are my first attempt at that style.
“Cyclical Strength” refers to the strength from experience. From learning lessons and repeating processes and actions. The strength that comes from living both the ups and downs of this life. And to know that we are meant to accept suffering as well as embrace joy. And to keep in mind that all things are cyclical, and when I feel unstable or confused at a point in my life or day, that all things come around and at that moment I may be confused or unfocused, but soon things will circle around and those feelings will soon pass. “A Part of Everything” is a reminder that we are both individual and also a part of the whole. Today it means to me that in the bigger picture, my life is a wonderful contribution to the whole. That whatever woes I have today are very tiny in the bigger picture.
