  • My heart beats to what rhythm? I ask, and where? / It’s the same at all pulse points, like sounds of a snare; Yet, I have no drumsticks or pedals, it seems / as if nature has a part, in this beating scheme; I will venture outside to investigate closer / connections to this pounding, and its composer; I look to the sky, not the same rhythm there, / then look to the ground, and kneel as in prayer; The beat’s getting stronger, so I lay down to rest, / the bass beating deeper, like out of my chest; Caressing the Earth, soon the rhythm entwines / it comes from this planet – a harmony divine; Convinced of the bond, between earth and sky, / I look up again, as Spirit Eagle flies by; With drum made of elk hide, with my own hand, / I begin beating rhythm, for Mother Nature’s band; I asked and pursued answers, until I believed / I deserved confirmation, so musically received; I’ll become ‘her’ drum major and advocate peace, / so the beat goes on further than my nephews and niece. WindOwl 2007 Earth Drum Ten Billion BEATS is asking for your drumming heart to participate in a plan to circle the Earth with a resounding rhythm of unity for all peoples, all faiths, all nations and all hopes and dreams. Friday, September 18, 2009 at 7pm for one hour of drumming about 4 beats per second, which corresponds with Theta range of human brain activity. The INTENTION: Focus on non-doctrinaire, non-political, non-religious intention. As we all drum we will hold this thought sending it around the planet and beyond on a not so silent pulse. • Linaji and TeriLee queried me this morning on how I felt in the moment of joining “Feminine Intent”, and although I wrote these words 16 years ago, I never felt them as strong as I do at this moment in time… Our power of generation is female, femine, matriarchal… Our roots come from survival and independence; Our branches break and regrow with reality and strength; Our leaves are resillient, as tears enlighten a new beginning; The newest seed of creative life within ourselves will cultivate / these elements into becoming a deeper root to our Earth Mother / with our female chain unbroken… tkrosevear 1992/2008 Sisters are Doin’ it

  • When I first joined Femine Intent I told one of the hosts, Lina, that I had something in mind for this group. What I wanted was to show the part of me that I value so much and have enbraced with all my heart. So, Lina … I finally completed it!! Native women have drummed for many years. The drum represents the universal heartbeat of Mother Earth – the universal mother to us all. The sound that was heard first in the world was her heartbeat. The first sound a baby hears in the womb is the heartbeat of his Mother. The heartbeat is manifested through playing a special rhythm on the drum. This rhythm facilitates healing and realignment of the four realms of human existence (Mental, Spiritual, Emotional, Physical) because Great Mystery and Mother Earth revolve around the rhythm. The drum creates a hum that rests between the voice and the drum—the hum is the spirit of the Ancestors. Many years ago, a group of Lenape drummers invited me to drum with them. We met once a week for several years. During that time, they taught me many songs and chants, some in the Native Lenape tongue. I felt a sense of belonging that I have never felt before. Belonging to these people and the universe itself. I am grateful to these men and women of the Lenape tribe for their teachings and allowing me to drum along with them all those years. II made this picture Rainbow colors to represent the Rainbow tribe. “_The Rainbow Tribe consists of everyone, of native and non-native blood, who believe that in our coming together as a tribe of people, of all colors, we will make the one true tribe of two-legged ones that we are. _ I personally own many drums; currently I own seven drums. Three of my drums are pictured here and were all made especially for me by Shari Kestenbaum. / Bear … / / Owl … / / Harris Hawk … / The picture of the woman drumming is a favorite picture of mine. At the top it states … “As We Drum … We are One” and the inspiration at the bottom reads : / The DRUM is Great Spirit’s favorite instrument . That is why we are all given a heartbeat.* ~~ Mano, Navajo Elder This is my feminine intent … that we all hear the heartbeat of one another. / —Judi
