  • Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon formed over the course of millions of years by erosion of the Navajo Sandstone, primarily due to flash flooding and secondarily due to wind erosion. Rainwater (especially during monsoon season) runs into the wash that Antelope Canyon is part of, picking up speed and sand as it rushes through the narrow passageways. Over time the passageways are eroded away, making the corridors wider and smoothing hard edges in such a way as to form characteristic ‘flowing’ shapes in the rock. Upper Antelope Canyon, called Tse bighanilini, “the place where water runs through rocks” by the Navajo, is the most frequently visited by tourists, due to two considerations. First, its entrance and entire length are at ground level, requiring no climbing. Second, beams (shafts of direct sunlight radiating down from openings in the top of the canyon) are much more common in Upper than in Lower. Beams occur most often in the summer months, as they require the sun to be high in the sky. In the same series: / / /

  • Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae)

  • For me summer holiday memories are all about bare feet, the sea, the smell of aerogard and barbeques, and long days and warm nights often spent in a caravan park by the ocean. This piece is about all of that, but I also wanted to infuse it with a bit of darkness and mystery …Holiday villages are so full of life and colourful characters by day, but at night when all have gone to bed and secured their temporary little homes, they can be quite strange and creepy…

  • THE POWER OF DREAMS
    by JaneAParis

The power of dreams / The power of our dreams / Not letting go of something / No matter how hard they beat on you…

This is about believing in yourself, through all kinds of hardship. It is about holding onto a dream, and making it a reality…And to let go, means only death to body, soul, mind, and heart.

  • This childlike cartoon depiction is meant to portray the concept of mind over matter, and that our achievements and accomplishments are only restrained by the power of our mind. Whether it be sporting, academic, career based or any other obstacle or goal we wish to attain, its always good to remember impossible is nothing and nothing is impossible.

  • The Power of the Net: Space Coyote Inspiration

So, you’ve never heard of Space Coyote? Well….I only know a few things, but enough to be blown away at the power of the internet. ROUGH + GUESSED RE-ENACTMENT: So, you’re sitting there designing as you always do. You decided that it would be cool and humorous to draw the Simpsons as Manga type characters, and so, you get to work. A little while later after putting all the characters into the lounge room, you sit back, admire your work and pop it up on the internet so some of your friends can see it. Then….almost overnight, you become famous. Ok, so this is a totally mocked up story but pretty darn close to what really happened for Space Coyote….and now, after going from ‘nothing’ to something she has also managed to WIN an EISNER AWARD (A big award for American Comic Books) for her work on the short story MURDER HE WROTE (BART SIMPSONS TREEHOUSE OF HORROR #14) Now I will be honest with you, I’m not a massive fan of Manga style art but I am a fan of inspirational stories like this. You can do more reading at her blog Love that inspiration, and love the possibilities on the net! P.s. thanks so much to everyone for commenting and favouriting and buying my designs. I appreciate it so much!

  • Copyright 2010 © Sharon Mau / My images and literary work do not belong to the public domain / Reproduction is strictly prohibited / All Rights Reserved There is a beautiful song attached below which is quite wonderful to listen to as you view my new work of art :)) Camera: Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi Image Information: This is a composite of three of my images, for which I own full copyright. Fine Art Dreams and Fantasies – Beneath the illusion Creation Date: 04 January 2010 I have had this work of art in mind for quite some time now, about a year or so. I worked on this a considerable amount of time today, perhaps 7 hours. Brilliant skies of a sensational sunset are stitched onto a beautiful wave shot taken on Hamoa. The lovely lady and her children on their beautiful horse dressed and decorated in celebration of the enchanting mythical Unicorn, I photographed upcountry in Makawao during the Paniolo parade in 2008. With this third element I erased the background and layered it over the first composite. I applied a digital filter to soften the image in a beautiful gold tone, a colour I had picked up from the horse’s mane, smoothed the digital noise and then desaturated the final image. “It is indeed mystical the things we often see as we walk alone in the wilderness when our hearts and minds are still and our Ego is silent. It is in those moments our intuitive awareness is sensitive to the rhythms of nature and the universal power and energy that resonates in all things. There are many realms within this physical world only deeply spiritual and intuitive people are in touch with and I believe the higher awareness is a gift. It is my wish that you enjoy how I have expressed my creative vision in such a beautiful tangible way.” excerpts from Natural Impressions ~ The Human Element, a new literary work by Sharon Mau
