  • Atsá
    by Sena

Atsá (Diné [Navajo] word for eagle). Eagle, the master of the sky, is considered a carrier of prayers. Many Indian Nations honor this bird as possessing courage, wisdom, and a special connection to the creator. This is often confused with the “thunderbird” image concept. Eagle is also a Directional Protector(the Sky) spirit, and an image associated with spirits and visions. / My depiction represents three Bald Eagles circling about the Sun, here symbolized by the sacred Zia (Zia Pueblo word for ‘Sun’). Its rays marking the four directions; in the year, with its four seasons; in the day, with the sunrise, noon, evening, and night; in life, with its four divisions—childhood, youth, manhood, and old age. Everything is bound together in a circle of life and love, without beginning, without end.

  • Zia
    by Sena

Zia Keresean (language of the Zia Pueblo [and other Keres pueblos] in New Mexico) for Sun. New Mexico’s distinctive insignia is the Zia (Sun) Symbol, which originated with the Indians of Zia Pueblo (north central New Mexico) in ancient times. Its design reflects their tribal philosophy, with its wealth of pantheistic spiritualism teaching the basic harmony of all things in the universe. Four is the sacred number of Zia, and the figure is composed of a circle from which four points radiate. These points made up of four straight lines of varying length personify the number most often used by the Giver of all good gifts. To the Zia Indian, the sacred number is embodied in the earth, with its four directions; in the year, with its four seasons; in the day, with the sunrise, noon, evening, and night; in life, with its four divisions—childhood, youth, manhood, and old age. Everything is bound together in a circle of life and love, without beginning, without end. The Zia believe, too, that in this great brotherhood of all things, man has four sacred obligations: he must develop a strong body, a clear mind, a pure spirit, and a devotion to the welfare of his people. This is the symbol which adorns the flag of New Mexico.

  • Pump your jets and fly… Jetpack fuel = / read, walk, hang with friends, learn, play music, sing to yourself, not just buying mindless pop music, sit through a whole Noam Chompsky recording without dozing off, eat healthy, eat chocolate, getting lost in nature, getting saved by hot emerency helicopter crew, going on unexpected helicopter flights, write a short story, read Murakami Huraki and not find the idea of a imaginary man in a sheep suit strange, give up smoking, give to the poor, shoot the breeze, doodle on a phone book, tell your friends you have a disease and see who sends you food + gifts… gawking at trees, using your other hand to draw with, using a mouse from the 90’s. • I was watching the movie “The Ultimate Gift” listening to the character played by James Garner talking to his grandson when he said… ‘Learning is a gift… even if pain is your teacher”. As soon as the words had finished coming out of his mouth I honestly said out loud – YES!! Immediately I was blown away by the quote and I wrote it down and thought about its meaning for weeks. I’ve never felt so affected by a sentence before. Upon reflecting this quote I found quite confronting to realise that I spent my twenties doing everything to avoid and “run away” from my emotional pain.. Now in my 30s I’ve realised that pain was essential for me to be a more caring, less-judgemental and forgiving person. Pain seems to show us the truth in others… the truth that all people, no matter what’s on the outside… have a heart capable of breaking on the inside. It gives me great comfort that I can now view the grief of my brothers death as somewhat of a gift to me – rather than nothing but a loss FEATURED IN Prize Challenges GROUP / FEATURED IN Creative Inspirations / FEATURED IN YOU’RE ACCEPTED GROUP / FEATURED IN FIRST THINGS GROUP / FEATURED IN TYPOGRAPHY GROUP / FEATURED IN THE ART OF PAIN GROUP t-shirt available .

  • Written by ~ Charles Dickens: And Angel Voices Say… The pure, the bright, the beautiful / That stirred our hearts in youth; / The impulses to wordless prayers, / The streams of love and truth; / The longing after something lost, / The spirit’s yearning cry; / The striving after better hopes… / These things can never die. The timid hand stretched forth to aid / A brother in his need; / A kindly word in grief’s dark hour / That proves a friend indeed; / The plea for mercy softly breathed / When justice threatens high; / The sorrow of a contrite heart… / These things shall never die. Let nothing pass, for every hand / Must find some work to do; / Lose not a chance to waken love; / Be firm and just and true; / So shall a light that cannot fade / Beam on thee from on high, / And angel voices say to thee… / “These things shall never die.” / All profit goes to Feed The Children

  • Have you ever felt as if you are alone in a crowded room, or that the world is burning around you and no one notices the smoke? We as a people are in many ways treating the planet just like that, ignoring the pleas and screams for help, content in our tiny personal universes oblivious of the damage manifesting in front of our eyes. I wonder if it will take us being isolated into the final last mountain top remaining able to sustain life prior to our awakening to the critical nature of our precarious existence. We are on the crossroads able to choose two paths ahead, one leads humanity into darkness into which we may never recover and the alternative leads into a world of phenomenal wonders and breathtaking beauty which fills our spirit with joy. Which path do you choose? Artwork created with Vue Infinite

  • The summer of 1969 was a time of change. It was the year of the Beatles swansong, the first manned moon landing, and hippies protested and clashed with the establishment over U.S. involvement in Vietnam. On a dairy farm in the town of Bethel in upper state New York, the greatest musical and cultural event of the millenium happened. The Woodstock Music & Arts Fair, billed as an Aquarian Exposition, was held during the weekend of August 15th through the 17th. Starring thirty top names in popular entertainment, the Woodstock Festival’s attendance was unprecedented for the time / Attendance estimates vary from source to source, ranging anywhere from about 75,000 on the low side, to well over 1,500,000 on the high side. The best guess, which is close to the average of all estimates, would be between a third to a half million people. It’s impossible to determine exact numbers, as the fences around the site were never completed in time, so tickets were never taken – it was a free concert. / For “three days of peace & music” Woodstock was a living, breathing, working city. In the last great multi-day music festival of our time, the young people showed the world that all those hippies could co-exist for a prolonged period of time without a catastrophe (and with little or no police intervention). / THE ARTISTS that made history… / Richie Havens / Sweetwater / Bert Sommer / Tim Hardin / Ravi Shankar / Melanie / Arlo Guthrie / Joan Baez / Quill / Country Joe McDonald / John B. • This is one of my favorite songs and so I wanted to share it with you. I Hope You Dance I hope you never lose your sense of wonder / You get your fill to eat / But always keep that hunger / May you never take one single breath for granted / God forbid love ever leave you empty handed / I hope you still feel small / When you stand by the ocean / Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens / Promise me you’ll give faith a fighting chance And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance / I hope you dance / I hope you dance I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance / Never settle for the path of least resistance / Living might mean taking chances / But they’re worth taking / Lovin’ might be a mistake / But it’s worth making / Don’t let some hell bent heart / Leave you bitter / When you come close to selling out / Reconsider / Give the heavens above / More than just a passing glance And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance / I hope you dance. Title: Lee Ann Womack – I Hope You Dance / Artist: Lee Ann Womack Lyrics /
