Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it. ~ Confucius For the girl that has ever looked in the mirror and wished for longer hair, bigger lips, smaller ears, a thinner figure, whiter teeth, wider eyes, better make up, a prettier smile……..this is for you!! Have you ever noticed when you walk down Shop Street, or Grafton Street or any high street for that matter!? that girls all tend to dress the same? Yes there are differences of course in styles, colours, shapes etc, but everyone is trying to be someone else, trying to look like someone else, trying to fit into a mould. And do you know what the ironic thing is? You are best at being you, not being your sister, your best friend, the girl from the Rimmel advert or new TV soap. You were made YOU and guess what? You are amazing, you are unique, you are priceless, you are treasured, you were designed, not just thrown together, you are a masterpiece. You were not an accident. You are here at this time for a reason. You are best at being you. Do not try and be anyone else, do not try and fit into a mould that was never made for you. And sure nobody is perfect, we all have made wrong decisions and mistakes, but do not focus on them. Focus on the fact that YOU are amazing, not the person beside you, you’re husband, cat, dog or best friend. YOU are amazing. Learn to like yourself and life will be so much better. Embrace what you have. You may want a smaller figure, different family, prettier smile, and while you can change some things, others you just have to learn to accept and embrace. Be You, because you are Beautiful.

Allo Allo!! i just recently upload this new piece today, I Love Me – Have You Loved Yourself Today? / / Please do check it out, as i think RB might have failed to add it into watcher’s activity list.. i guess it’s because i had it on “Hide this work from others” mode first.. dang… UPDATE: This piece just got featured on Thought Bubble Group and The Patchwork Group!! Awww… Thank you, Moderators!!! =D Hope you like it! =D There are some of us, who took it upon ourselves to do things for others. to help others.. to make others happy.. but we forgot about ourselves! we forgot that we need to make ourselves happy too. we need to love ourselves too. if we don’t love ourselves, who’ll love us? i dedicate this to every one of you kind souls out there!! remember to always love yourself as well!! =D i especially thank Karin who kept reminding me that i am love-able as well. bad history and with the kind of people i’m surrounded by, i was made to believe that nobody will love me for everything that i am. am made to realise all my faults and bad points and weaknesses. made to believe am ugly and useless. having depression doesn’t help as i view myself as nothing more than a mental girl. i totally believe that it’s impossible for anyone to really love me. But Karin showed me otherwise. she made me answer and admit my pretty gd points.. and i realised.. hey!! i can be love-able?! am still trying to accept that now.. lolz.. it’s still kinda hard to accept, having been instilled those “i sux!” mindset for years… ahahahah.. The site, and fantastic people have motivated me to go outside my comfort zone, and do things that I’d not thought of, never mind get involved in. I feel warm and fuzzy…and absolutely knackered LOL

  • Changes In The Air...A Good Thing.

Change is manifesting in my life, and I’m studying the affects on myself and those around me. My husband’s company has fired many employees, including him, and is closing their US offices. One way or another we’ll move through this time by creative thinking and looking for opportunity. I’m actually relieved. Life is spacious and feels wide open. I feel smooth and unencumbered; the way a shark must when remoras and barnacles release their hold upon its belly. This is why I’ve just posted my painting of the wise woman beneath the arctic seas, seeing abundant possibilities and movement. I enjoy taking time to talk and share with other artists, but it can be draining when most don’t reciprocate. Among the benefits resulting from periods of free fall is that chaff is separated from the grain in our circle of acquaintances and friends. Some persons, usually aspiring artists once eager to associate with me have recently vanished and blown to the four winds. Discovering that like everyone else, this artist has bills to pay bursts the cherished myth that somewhere, somehow, are artists who create, make large amounts of money , and are eager to share the bounty (and their techniques or business advice) with every stranger who cares to email. While we reap the benefits of a creative lifestyle and being our own bosses, most artists have families and need to survive in a difficult economic climate. Thus we often seek employment in fields outside the arts. In the USA, where health care is inextricably linked to full time employment, artists who could otherwise have pleasant, though simple lives (if they hustle and watch their spending) are in a tough predicament because the need for costly health insurance pushes us right over the edge of sustainability. As a result, I’m putting more effort into promoting my art and facing the possibility of a 9 to 5 job for insurance purposes ( the situation of many self employed Americans). I’ve notified acquaintances so they won’t expect regular correspondence, and many formerly communicative individuals have responded with ‘much too busy to reply right now, Ill get back to you’…and of course they never will. My response? Thank the Goddess!!!! In their place, new individuals have entered my life, supportive even though there’s no benefit in doing so. This is being a true human, when we see beyond simple self interest and act upon that feeling of connection be reaching out. Maybe some of you have had or are having the same experience?

Remember when you were a kid? / Remember the excitement and anticipation of becoming an adult. “when i’m a grown-up, I’m gonna…..”. So what was it you were going to do? Whatever it was, it was pretty exciting, and you couldn’t WAIT to get started, holding onto the magic of the idea and all it’s merit. So, now you’re all grown up, did you do it? Why is it that adulthood often quashes the dreams and aspirations of childhood? Why can’t we indulge in a passionate reality, where we believe in possibilities and aspire to greatness? Surely we don’t have to take ourselves so seriously all of the time. There is still so much to explore, create and discover. After all, aren’t adults just older children? Hold onto those dreams. Allow yourself to breathe life into them. When you were a child, the only thing holding you back was not being old enough to do what you wanted. Now the only thing holding you back is you.

  • The Art of ones life
    by Tania Rose

you can also read this here *Creative minds get inspired essentially bec…

you can also read this here Creative minds get inspired essentially because of what happens in their lives. It comes from an experience, a happening, a realisation, an experiement. It’s a simple equation. A+B=C. We all create our lifes based on our experience, regardless of whether we persue a creative outlet or not. We base daily decisions on our lives by such things as how much money we have in our pocket (shall i take the train or drive today?), how we feel about people (yikes! i don’t want to bump into him!), and our attitudes (I love doing this!). And these perspectives were themselves born out of experiences and earlier perspectives, which in turn came from earlier ones, etc. Some people make a living out of helping people trace back those steps to identify significant events in their lives…but what about those stepping stones ahead? If you look to the past, it becomes clear that your own choices lead you down your path, and so it makes sense that the choices you make now and tomorrow will create a new path into the future. So, let’s experiment. How about changing one specific choice for one week, and see what happens to you, how you feel, and what your experiences are. It might be a complete change in dress style, listening to completely different music than your normally would, or hanging out with people you wouldn’t normally speak to. The key to the exercise is that it needs to be a significant change, and one that will most likely redirect you for that week. You might be surprised at what happens. Ok, what’s the point? Well, our lives are a bit like a sculpture, each experience chipping away at our present self, and shaping our future self. Many people underestimate how much control they have in this somewhat artistic process. Some artists like to do these kind of experiements often, to keep their experiences and perspective fresh. I often read stories of how creative people came to do their projects, and it makes for facsinating reading. Maybe after your week, you might have something facsinating to tell aswell.

  • How to make a beautiful life....

How to Make a Beautiful Life Love yourself. Make peace with who you are And where you are At this moment in time. Listen to your heart. If you can’t hear what it’s saying In this noisy world, Make time for yourself. Enjoy your own company. Let you mind wander among the stars. Try. Take chances. Make mistakes. Life can be messy And confusing at times, But it’s also full of surprises. The next rock in your path Might be a stepping stone. Be happy. When you don’t have what you want, Want what you have. Make do That’s a well-kept secret of contentment. There aren’t any shortcuts to tomorrow. You have to make your own way. To know where you are going Is only part of it. You need to know where you’ve been, too. And if you ever get lost, don’t worry. The people who love you will find you. Count on it. Life isn’t days and years. It’s what you do with time And with all the goodness and grace That’s inside you. Make a Beautiful life… The kind of life you deserve. -unknown

I started painting 6 years ago. I’d had this romantic notion of being a painter but now the time had come, I didn’t actually have a clue what I was going to paint! I was given a book, one of those huge hard backed ones full of beautiful glossy photographs of African women. They were decorated with fabulous jewellery. I decided to try and paint one of these women. I was really fascinated by the tiniest beads and the repetition of the strands. It seemed that by repeating the same object several times, they somehow took on a different meaning. I had a big problem painting from photographs. Not only were these copyrighted but it felt like I was cheating. My parents had discouraged me from becoming an artist because I’d spent most of my childhood copying pictures. They felt that this was not showing true talent or skill. I don’t really agree with this, it’s a different art form, but for me, I wanted to be original. I also wanted to have a message, not just paint for the sake of painting. I was lucky enough to meet an artist who had taught art most of his life. I didn’t like his paintings but he had showed me one or two of his more sculptural pieces which were very quirky indeed. I realised that it was this quirkiness that I liked. He offered to critique the work I had done so far and see if he could get me thinking about which direction I should take. He loved the zebras I had done and said it was a very well executed painting. That gave me hope. He looked at all my paintings and held his hands over different areas in like a circle fashion, like a tunnel and looked through. It made me think of a lens, zooming in. He said that there were areas in all my paintings where the detail was excellent and that I had obviously zoomed into those areas that interested me the most. The last thing he told me was that I should ask myself what it was that really interested me and it would be this that I painted well. After that meeting, I just couldn’t paint. I couldn’t think of anything that I really, really wanted to paint. There seemed to be so many things. I spent months just sitting in my studio, not painting, but thinking. I also spent a lot of time making decorative objects for the home, mostly with beans, whatever type of bean I could find. I would spend hours just gluing them in a repetitive pattern. People couldn’t work out what these objects were made of and that fascinated me. Again, the repetition of one object took on a different meaning when grouped together. I also wanted to paint though and it just wasn’t happening the way I wanted. I went to Vienna for a small break and I spent my time going round some exhibitions trying to get inspiration. I came across an artist called Eva Hesse. She was an American artist who had died at the age of 34 from a brain tumour. She never really got to the place she wanted to be with her art. It made me want to try harder. Her early works were mostly drawings, all quite naive which I didn’t like very much. I was rather bored of this exhibition but then, right at the very end were some of her works where she had used materials and these works were like 3 dimensional, though still hanging like a painting. In several of them she had used string. I was completely fascinated. It was as if a light bulb had been switched on. I realised that I could put all my creative skills into my paintings!!! I couldn’t wait to get into my studio after that. Because I’d been working with beans so much, I took some digital photos of these so that I could blow them up on the computer and really see the detail. The skin on the black eyed beans was crinkled and ideal to be represented in string. This is how I came about doing ‘string beans’, a key piece of work. The repetition of the rows of string creates a rhythm and then when the string is over-painted, it undertakes an metamorphic transformation. It’s totally fascinating. I realised also that most people would not look at nature this closely. They would not study a tomato before they put it in their salad the way I do or photograph a lemon and blow it up out of all proportion on their computer. Here was my message! I could show people how beautiful these things are if only we took the time to look properly. Here was a way for me to show people. Since looking at nature in this way, I look at everything differently. I see flowers as folded pieces of fabric and tiny knots of string for the stamens, I see ridges in shells as bits of string, mushrooms as fibreglass, lichen as bits of clay etc. etc. I don’t see things in a ‘normal’ way anymore which has lead people to think I’m slightly mad. It’s become like an obsession, a compulsion. Now I’ve started this process, I really don’t think I can stop. I have so many ideas and nowhere near enough time to do all I have to do! Must go!!!

  • These Cards Have Been Given a New Home
    by Stephen Mitchell

As previously mentioned, I purchased fifteen of my own photographs as cards. I’d ONLY planned to give a few away as gifts to close friends, and in particular to the one person who convinced me that my photography was worth selling. She knows who she is. So this morning I brought fifteen cards into work purely to allow these friends to choose the picture they liked most … and allow them to have it for FREE. These are the photographs they choose. / / ... for Yve / ... for Rosie / ... for Jenny / ... for Liam / / Little did I realise what would happen next… / / First, Jenny liked them so much she insisted (read: I caved) on having four more. Who am I to argue with a woman? So I decided on a price, she agreed … and I earned another ten dollars. Yes, I reduced the cost to $2.50. But that’s what you do for friends, and free publicity. / / , , So I stopped for a minute to consider my options. Why not sell them? OK, so I had instructions from “SWMBO” to keep some for Xmas and Birthday cards later this year. I was implicitly told that two would go family interstate within the next week! / / So after a quick email, these two photographs were purchased by Yve: / / , Then Wendy said she might miss out – so she bought three (and asked for three that had already been purchased)! / / , , Whew! I feel exhausted and exhilarated all at once! And I need to remember to exhale. Because selling one’s artwork is like giving one’s children away. The photography and post-production is nothing compared with suddenly becoming a ‘recognised photographer’. One person did say I could make more money if I did all this myself. Possibly. But all I want to do is photograph. RedBubble remove the hassle by doing all the framing, laminated, sending, and finances for me! / / One more thing: Wendy also gave me the boost and the BEST Quote of the day : ” I’d rather spend my money on your work, not on Hallmark! “ / Wow, I’ve been compared with Hallmark – and won! She also indicated she will purchase more of my cards online. Only one of the didn’t sell. I get to keep this one for my desk: ‘A picture tells a thousand words’. I love this quote. No longer do I need to write to family and friends – I only have to take one photograph to write a thousand words!

Came across this somewhere. How motivating! Just what I needed on a day like today :) “A man found a cocoon of a butterfly, that he brought home. One day a small opening appeared he sat and watched the butterfly for several hours. It struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no farther. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily, but, it had a swollen body and small, shrivelled wings. He continued to watch the butterfly, he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and the body would contract. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shrivelled wings. It was never able to fly. The man acted with well-intentioned kindness but he didn’t understand the consequences. The restricting cocoon and the struggle required to get through the tiny opening, were nature’s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon. Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If we were to go through life without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as we could have been and we could never fly So the next time you are faced with an obstacle, / a challenge, or a problem, remember the butterfly. / Struggle a little – then fly! “

  • Layers in art are like layers in our life...
    by Hayley Solich

You probably do not realise it but each of these pictures is a collage of more than three images layered to create one. Like our lives, each layer adds some depth, some colour or some texture to the overall effect. Without even one of the layers the image would not be the same. How many situations in life do we go through that are dark? These are our contrasting moments, our opportunities to grow, to learn and to expand our understanding. Without them our vision of life would not be the same. So too, the light areas are our bright lights that lift us off the page and highlight our characteristics, our thoughts and our ideals. What is the image of your life looking like right now? Is it like one of my pieces where I had many of the layers in place but it just didn’t feel finished because it was missing a layer or two? Whatever place you are at just know that today you are building a complex composite of your life. Today is the accumulation of a thousand yesterdays. You are all of those yesterdays. They are what defines you, what makes you special. They are your story! They are the image of your life. The beauty is that you have a role to play in what the next layers are that will be layed upon your life. You can choose their opacity, their colour and their placement. Build wisely the image of your life that you will be able to view with pleasure, just as I view these and sigh in satisfaction.

I need to take a moment to express my excitement of this website. Like many artists I will find excuses to “wait for the muse” which limits my creative output. I find especially with the barrage of informtion technology allows us, that I am constantly on “input” mode. I go to art galleries, artistic web pages, read amazing books at the bookstore or library, and am INSPIRED! Great for helping me to form ideas but not good for helping me to focus. I have to bring a determination to creative “output” mode and this website, I believe, is the tool I have been looking for. To me, a creative process begins with the input mode as I call it. To move to the next step I need a combination of motivation, inspiration, and resources. I believe it is only when I’ve found a balance of those three things that I can produce “art.” Although I can imagine that it’s quite rare that those three elements would be an equal balance because ideal situations for creating art never are. There is a flux between those three elements and that is where the next step, my DETERMINATION, is so important! I am determined to keep a consistant flow of creativity. To do that I need inspiration and I am inspired by YOU! So what is your motivation, and what are you creating today for me to be inspired by tomorrow? We can help eachother in the creative process, we just need to be determined to do so…..
