  • Most people who have children or grandchildren are familiar with the Itsy Bitsy Spider song. When I spotted this very tiny spider (which I almost missed seeing altogether because it was so miniscule), I thought immediately of that childhood song. I took its picture and in PS, I placed the lyrics of the song right alongside it in remembrance of all the times I sang this with my children as they were growing up and am still singing it with my grandson who is now four. This may be a Mabel Orchard Spider, but I’m not sure. The field guides say it is 1/8 inch long. If anyone knows what kind of spider this is, I’d appreciate a word from you.

  • This is a Black Widow . I found her hanging out under my truck last summer when I was watering the front yard. Frist I need to let ya’ll know that I really really hate spiders off all kinds much less one as deadly as this one is !!! What I did next was run into the house and got my camera to take pictures of her !!! I know I was shock when I realized what I was doing !!! lol lol . Over the next few days i had taken a few photos of her but then i was also noticing that she was getting bigger !!! That means babies where soon to be here , so I had to find out what I could get to get ride of her before that could happen!!! I was able to do just that ..get rid of her before we have a whole lot of them running around here…I have grand kids so I couldn’t let that happen …But for the time she was here I got some great photos of her and this is one of them ,,,, Its creepy but I hope you enjoy them ! • Well fellow red bubblers here she is again , the creepy crawly dreaded Black Widow!!! lol lol / This one was taken on the next morning when I went out to water the lawn and she was still hanging out under my truck . When the water hit the web she came running out from under the truck bed and started adding to her web. If you look close enough you can see the stuff they use to make the web ( I don’t know the technical name for this ..sorry ) comming out of her back side as she went along attaching it. I was just mazed that I had caught that when taking the photo! • A Golden Orb Weaver, measuring close to 15cm in leg span. This guy managed to build a web that almost stretched across the street. Being 110% arachnophobic, I did’t dare get within 5 metres of this beast. (so thankful for the invention of the zoom lens am I). The little bundle above spidey is one of the 100 or so unfortunate bugs that managed to fly into the web. This guy was not going hungry in a while. / The lighting made the spider almost a silhouette, and the lighter brown parts of its legs came out a nice deeper red. There’s no other creature on the earth that I am more scared of, yet I have this strange fascination with them as well. • The other night there was a knock at the door. A friend had discovered this beetle while gardening that afternoon. They had put it aside and driven over to give it to me thinking I might like to photograph it .. isn’t that lovely? :-) /
